Would this be a good beginners soldering job?

Without even looking at that..

Just get an old mobo/modem/whatever and try to solder some wires to it first...trust me :)

soldering isn't difficult at all unless you get into the surface mount stuff (which this isn't). that looks pretty simple.

i would though look around for some kind of tutorial at least.

Good advice. You just need to work on some stuff that's not "mission critical" to get the hang of it. Take proper safety precautions too. Goggles.

anything not-surface mount you will be able to do as a beginner.

Hell, my first soldering job was a micro-controller board for a small robot, took a long time, but in the end I had a perfectly functional small computer with 6 self-contained motor controllers, numerous inputs, small LCD, and PC connection. It really is fairly easy.

I wouldn't do this one. Get a radio kit or something cheap. Since you've never soldered before, try just soldering wires together, then wires to a board, then see if you can't go to a second hand shop and find some old old electronics and take components off the board, then put them back on. Bonus points if it works after.

If you really want to learn to solder, just start by soldering some wires together. After that, try a radio, something more complex. If you succeed, take it apart, and try it at least 4 more times. Then you'll be able to solder.

Well...I agree with what others said.

What you need to do though is tin the end of your soldering iron, then remember to heat the wire/part/whatever you are soldering and melt the solder into that...don't try to melt the solder directly.

My first soldering project was a little voice chnager kit from RadioShack. Really fun to make, easy to learn on.

Soldering isn't that hard. I learned in Grade 8 when we made alarms. Had to solder things onto a board and etc. Pretty straightforward

I learned to solder(well) by buying cheap, nifty little kits and putting them together.

Search for "elecronic kits" online. There are tons of places that sell them. Check eBay too.

Go to Radio Shack, get an iron and solder and if you don't have any wire, some of that too. Twist them together and practice on that for a while, and it's pretty easy. Then you might want to go to a garage sale and buy a junker radio and practice soldering on it.

The hardest part is not moving the joint until it sets up all the way.

Remember, clean parts are easier to solder and it will stick better.

Trying to solder really big wires with a small iron isn't going to work very well. They make huge irons that work well for that. $$$!
