Would this Aspire X-Qpack config work?

Say I bought an aspire X-Qpack
Link
And then I went to monarch computer and used this combo deal:
Link
And selected an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ with the $79 foxconn motherboard with the $42.00 zalman heatsink.
And then I put in a 7800GTX for the video card
Then used this combo deal (the $264 one) for the OS, Tv tuner, remote:
Link
Add in a better power supply like this:
Link
Use some $120-$140 OCZ ram (1 gig 512x2)
Coupled with a 2005FP dell 20.1 widescreen monitor
An external Audigy soundcard and speakers
And a lite-on DVDRW/CDRW drive

Would that all fit and be compatible?

That whole thing probably comes out to around a $2000 dollar price tag (not counting the monitor). Any advice on making that less expensive? Mainly I need to know if that will work. Would overclocking the 3800 be easy?

Please help! Mainly im not sure that the vid card would fit, although it looks like it would, and whether it would all be compatible. Ive seen the other threads on the X-Qpack, and read all the reviews online, but I was hoping someone who had actually purchased one of these and some of these components too could offer some advice.

Thanks!!!!!!1111one

I assume you mean the U-ATX Winfast NF4K8MC-ERS board, if so, that will work in the Q-Pack. I'm not sure about the overclocking abilities of that board, but it's gotta be able to overclock better then the MSI that Monarch has, since it doesn't have any options.

I'm building a Q-Pack now, just waiting on the case, I'm using the Jetway GDMS-Pro board from newegg, so far it appears to be the best overclocking board.

Thanks for the response!

Yes I meant the uATX board of course

Thats interesting abou the Jetway board, ill probably get that one too. Im hoping that in the next month or so boards from other manufacturers will hit the market... I read some stuff about gigabyte in particular.

Let me know how that Q-pack build goes, ill be interested in how noisy it is and how well you can get the air circulation going. I figure that if I get a powersupply with one of the bigger 120mm fans and the exhaust side open grill, combined with the already included 120mm fan on the case, it should be quiet and cool. Also, if I get a modular powersupply air flow should be even better because there arent as many wires to clutter up the case. What do yo uthink ND40oz?

Does anyone know if a 7800 will fit in the case? The only difference is the extra inch or so in length.... I think.

I'm not sure about the 7800 GTX fitting, but I assume it should work, people are putting in X800XLs and their pretty long, atleast I know my AGP one is, I imagine the PCIE is a little shorter.

Check out the forums on SFFtech.com and at HardOCP, they both have pretty good forums relating to all things SFF. Alot of people are building qpacks over here.

EDIT: about halfway down this thread, there is a picture of a person with that uATX motherboard and a 7800GTX in a silverstone case, should be roughly the same size as the aspire. LINK

Thanks! I suppose everything is set to go.... hopefully that new DFI mobo will come out and be a good high end uATX solution.

If you can remember, please post how that mobo turns out, whether or not its stable and overclocks easily.

Well, I have it all setup in another case. It's just a fullsize ATX, I'm waiting till newegg does another sale on the qpack. It overclocks stabily all the way up to 250 ht. After 250 some people are seeing problems with the onboard ethernet. I got mine all the way up to 267, but with the 4x hypertransport. The 3x,2x,1x weren't working on the last bios. Hopefully it will be soon. So I can run my 3000+ at 2.4 but I have been keeping it at 2.25 with 9x250. If you get the jetway, I'd recommend getting a 3200+ for the 10 multiplier if you want to take it to where the dfi boards are getting the 3000+s.

Hehe, I have the Chenming 118 which is the non-windowed OEM version of the case 🙂 It's a good case but could have been... a tad bit smaller, lol.

What do you guys have in your two rigs? Do you ever have heat problems? What PSU's do you have in there? Im worried that I might end up ordering a PSU that is too big, but from what I hear the qpack can take pretty much anything, as long as I get one of the Lite-on cd drives. I actually got the Lite-On DVDRW/CDRW for $46 (after rebate) from circuit city yesterday, and its even black to match the case.

Is there any difference between the chenming and the aspire?

Also, does anyone know if all of the AMD uATX boards have NCQ support?

The only difference that I know of is the window and the PSU maybe. I don't know about the AMD microATX boards.

Well, the X-QPack comes with a VERY nice PSU. I was IMPRESSED as hell with it. 30A on the 12V rail !!! thats better than my antec trueblue 480W !!!!!! Here are my specs below:

ABIT SG-80
Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz @ 3.4GHz w/ Zalman CNPS7000
BFG 6800GT OC
SoundBlaster Audigy Gamer
Leadtek XP2000 TV Tuner
36.7GB Western Digital Raptor
200GB Hitatchi Deskstar

It's warm in the case... but the fan that comes with the X-QPack moves some major air, believe me. Ambient case temp stays around 30C for me, while processor temp stays more around 45C while overclocked, but YMMV.

It's completely kickass.

Oh and just a side note: it was a bit tricky getting my 6800GT to fit into the case, it fits granted, but you have to put it in while the motherboard tray is halfway pulled out. I don't think the 7800 will fit, to be honest. But maybe you should find out 🙂

How much difference in loading times do you see between your deskstar and your raptor? Im debating whether or not to buy a raptor. Im just not sure how much of a difference there would actually be for instance when I boot up my computer or load a game. Is it the sort of difference where using the hitachi to boot from (if thats not what you do) would be just painful.

hmmm thats good to hear about the power supply, AMD processors typically use less power than intel ones, and the 7800 uses the same amt as a 6800, or so I hear. So I suppose I can probably just leave in the orginal power supply. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

Hypothetically, if I went intel and got the new dual core 820/830 or one of those, what would be a good uATX mobo to get?

I am pretty sure the Aspire X-Qpack PSU only has 10 or 11 amps on the 12v rail. Atleast that's what my friend told me. I see this guy above said his had 30, maybe my friend isn't lucky?

Chenming and aspire are the same, Aspire now has out a silver faced case with no windows, all black should be out by the end of aug, atleast that's what aspire has said. Aspire has a "better" powersupply, but it doesn't look like that should matter to you since you'll be replacing it anyway.

Not sure about the nForce board, i'm pretty sure any board with the ATI southbridge (MSI, ECS) does not have NCQ support, but a board with the ULI southbridge (Jetway) definitely does have NCQ support.

my boot times off of my raptor are absolutely insane. from the time i hit the power button, i'm in windows in about 10 seconds  i think thats good, at least. the boot time off my Deskstar aren't as good. probably 15 seconds or so? i know on the raptor i can install windows xp in about... 9 minutes 🙂

well i'll check out some mobos and we'll see. do you need an AGP slot or a PCI-E slot? also since I don't know much about AMD mobos i'm not sure really what to look for 😕 but intel is good! 😀 😀 😀 i'll see if i can't dig up something nice.

but yeah the PSU has 30A on the 12V rail... its not no 10 or 11... lol.

i think everything you have listed above will fit EXCEPT that 7800. i would see if you can't find the dimensions of that card, and if you can find those, compare them to the dimensions of a 6800GT. my 6800GT BARELY fits in that X-Qpack.

I havent been able to find the dimensions on a 7800, but I saw a review on newegg for the xqpack that said a guy had put a 7800 in there. Could have easily been fiction but I dont know. Ill find out eventually Im sure.

I ordered a bunch of parts today. Got the MSI mobo with a 3800+ and some ocz ram, all put together by monarchcomputer.com. I left off ordering the video card because it has integrated video which will get me by just fine while I look for a good deal on a 7800.

Thanks for all the advice, I will see in a couple weeks how well it all goes together.

alright, sounds good, let us know how things go... and also take some :camera:s if you get the chance to show it off 🙂
