Would the world be a BETTER place without religion?

I wonder, would the world be a better place without religion. Take a look at the past, a lot of wars happened due to religious differences, look at the present.. The terrorists hate Americans due to religous differences..

Do you think that religion causes as much war/crime as it "prevents" I think so.

Man is the cause of that not religion. They pervert religion to suit their needs.
 
Religion is just a good excuse to hate someone. Hate is based more on socio-economic differences, and cultural differences, rather than religion.

If there wasn't religion we would find something else to fill the void.

Religion is a (by?)product of our imagination, creativity and tribalism. None of which we would have advanced so far without.
 
Religion is a double-edged sword: In some cases it gives people a reason to live and carry on, gives hope. On the other, it's used as a weapon.

You cannot have good without bad. Personally, I'd like to see it gone.

If we didn't kill or hate each other because of our religion we'd just do it the old fashioned way and kill and hate each other because of the color of skin, or the language we speak, or the way we part our hair.

There is nothing wrong with religion. Just like there is nothing wrong with alcohol, violent video games, guns, money, sex, or any of the vices upon which people lay the blame for all our problems.

The problem arises when one person feels they have to thrust their beliefs upon another. I think the world would be better without those people. Add that to your poll
 
You mean religion as an institution headed by misguided bigoted excuses for spiritual leaders who are in turn revered by people who cannot or will not think for themselves? Yes, most definitely.
 
It would be a better place if people kept their religion to themselves. History has shown that religious people in power have a deadly low tolerance for people who do not agree with them.

LOL, not that I agree with his second line, but his fist line is correct. Your history teacher is a moron. A multitude of religions, both organized and unorganized, existed long before the dark ages.
