Would the Gigabyte 965P-S3 supports SATA DVD burners?

Hi guys,

The sata drive does indeed works with the sata ports. I used port 4.

I noticed the recent F7 BIOS, any one tried it? How's the overclock on that?
Thanks.

I have a Gigabyte DS3 (really the same as S3 except for solid-state caps), and I just purchased a Liteon 16A7S from Newegg. It is hooked to the Jmicron SATA controller on the motherboard, and is working very well.

Why in the Jmicron slot? The reason I got a Sata dvd burner is so I did NOT have to use the jmicron slots.

How do you install Windows XP if you only have SATA DVD Burner and SATA hard drives? Will it boot off an SATA optical drive?

I think it will as the Bios sees my lite-on Sata dvd drive as a DVD drive. I have not tried to boot from it yet but I don;t see why it would not work.

Anybody tried yet? (I am out of state so I can;t try mine, not lazy.) 🙂

The Old F7 is great. The new F8 sucks... for me at least 🙂

Are you talking about the 965P-S3 and not the 965P-DS3?

The drive boots like any IDE one.

Thanks.

no problem at all.

btw F9 for DS3 is now up on the Gigabyte server (& F7 for DS4 but they look to offer the same functionality as the S3 F7)

Ah good. I'm thinking about picking up an SATA DVD burner to free up a PATA slot for one of my old hard drives, reasurring for a paranoid person like me to hear that windows boots as if it's IDE.
