So its coming down to this. I either buy an 8700K (Whole new system) to upgrade my 6700k and keep my GTX 1080ti or spend $100 more keep my current setup now minus the 1080ti and buy an RTX 2080ti. Would the RTX 2080ti bottleneck my i7 6700K? I plan on playing at 1080p until I upgrade to 1440p probably in the next 4 months. Just buying one component at the time.

Appreciate the input as always.
Cheers.

It's just an off time to buy in general. We haven't really increased per core performance enough to matter since skylake's release, just added more cores. Turing has been out over a year now. We have new consoles coming out next year. I'm just holding on until this passes. What I would do though is get a nice monitor, then start looking at the other parts of my system that are external. I've got more mileage or satisfaction out of upgrading my monitor/keyboard/mouse/HEADPHONES/speakers/CHAIR/etc over the last 5+ years (probably closer to 10) than I have from upgrading internal parts. I could use a nice 2tb+ ssd though.
Right on. Good point. I also want a 1TB SSD that would be great, have a 500GB Currently. Going to mess around with my GTX 1080ti when it arrives here on Monday back from EVGA. See what kind of performance I get and how it does with games. I did run Firestrike and Heaven and it scored significantly higher than my RTX 2060 at around 30FPS More at 1080p. So that's pretty sweet.

As stated by others on this thread, there is no point on upgrading to an RTX 2080ti for 1080p gaming, there is virtually no major gain to justify the upgrade. But I am considering building a new system and keeping the 1080ti. Its not honestly so much about gaining major performance in return but I would really enjoy the whole experience of building another computer. Its fun, and its something I enjoy just to mix things up a little. It would be neat to start fresh with everything hehe.

This time I would do 3200Mhz RAM and 1TB SSD with an i7 8700K. Keeping the GTX 1080ti of course.

Yeah that could be a route to go as well. Just feel if I get the GPU first I get more out of it. Wonder if 1440p is really worth it.

1440p @ 144hz is pretty amazing. I've ran it for a few years now and look forward to 4k+ 144hz monitors and GPUs that can actually drive them. I made the leap to 1440p 60hz years ago when the Yamakasi imports started coming in and I still use that monitor on a spare box. Go for it!

Sounds awesome! I can't wait. Hoping by March or April of next year. Will see how it goes.

I like evga myself. I own three GTX cards by EVGA (980, 1080, 1080ti) and I have not had any issues with them. Yeah if you are gaming at 1080p then that 1080ti will handle anything you throw at it. Hell it handles just about every game I throw at it at 4k.

Same here. Most games run with a flat 60fps at 4K, and in the rest I turn down a few settings that hurt performance but have no visual impact. I have the budget for upgrading my whole setup but just don't see any reason to bother. VR might actually justify it though, I want to get into that and it seems to be the one use case for getting top end hardware today.

I have two VR sets and my system runs them perfectly. The GTX 1080 ti is all you need for sure.

Awesome! yeah just got it back from RMA like a week ago. Loving it. I tend to send used computer parts I buy for an RMA for check up. Just a force of habit. Have had items that work when they arrive and are still under warranty but somehow the previews owner damaged something and the warranty was void. I need to have at least 1 year warranty on the stuff I buy so I just send it to make sure its A-OK. The 1080ti was A-OK and I am very happy with it. Upgraded from an RTX 2060. Some games would stutter and drop frames like COD WW2 Multiplayer. With the 1080ti is smooth and fluid constantly. Love it.

Glad you are happy. Yeah, this card is great. When I first got into VR I had a GTX 1080 and even that card was perfect for VR. The only issue I had with the GTX1080 was running games at 4k so I bought the 1080ti and have had zero issues since. Now my daughter uses my 1080 for gaming.

Yeah its a great card for sure. Amazing performance boost coming from GTX 970>RTX 2060>GTX 1080ti. Only thing I wish is I would have gotten the FTW3 for the RGB just think it looks pretty lol I got the Black Edition instead but I got a decent deal on it for $420 shipped on OfferUp from a guy in Florida so I went ahead and bought it. Don't see any point of getting the FTW3 now.

That's good to hear. I was thinking of either an Index or Pimax 5k+. Some people say that the latter actually justifies a 2080 Ti, but it has other issues and may not be worth it overall. I may need to upgrade my CPU/platform to hit higher framerates as well.
