Would putting my cable modem on top of my subwoofer cause damage?

Granted, its only a 20W subwoofer (part of a Labtec Pulse-424), but its got enough ass shaking bass to knock things off my desk. Would it cause damage, either by the vibrations or the magnet in the sub?

Well do you have to? I'd put it somewhere else unless I absolutelly had to put it there. And it probably won't do much damage either.

desktop real estate is at a premium these days. Cant put it on top of the PC because the top is curved and itll fall off constantly.

the vibration couldn't be good for the electronics
as for the magnetic field i dunno.. maybe there are inductors in there that could be messed up though unlikely. i wouldn't do it though.

I just put mine (adsl modem, close enough) on the floor ontop of a book and a flat stand i took off some audio equipment i found on the streets (dumped) :D

My cable modem specifically states not to put it close to monitors or unshielded speakers, among other things.

Well put the subwoofer on your lap and put the modem where your subwoofer would be. Sinec the subwoofer has a little 2 inch "mouth" that "blows", placing it on your lap may benefit the creative geek =D

i woudn't be worried about the shaking, just pad it a bit, but the magnet while it IS only 20w, may cause undesired effects

hows a DSL modem for padding? :D

The not-in-use DSL modem is on the sub now, and I put the cable modem on top of the dsl modem sideways. Ill probably have to build a small shelf on the side of the desk one of these days

You can put it on there if it's shielded. I have my dsl modem on mine, and it's super sensitive in other places..
