I remember watching Madden as a coach of the Raiders, that is where he gained his status as a legend. He then became a great commentator on CBS.

Both of those things happened way before the video game.

The EA games did not MAKE who MADDEN is today. You're a fvcking retard for even thinking the game "made" Madden the man he is today. How old are you????? OH yeah....I bought the very first madden football for GEnesis back in the days.......awesome game.

Are you referring to geeks who have had hysterectomies?

LOL WTF?! I bet those of you who are voting that EA made him are probably 16 and younger. If anything, Madden made EA what it is.

i dont think madden would be commentating today if not for the games. the games made him famous with this generation, and thus created an audience for him today.

and madden sucks as a talking head. i cant understand him half the time. all he does is grunt and fart out the mouth, spitting all over the place. BOOMPSSTSTPP. he has to wear bib off camera. reminds me of jerry glanville. he sounded drunk all the time.

Madden's been doing the All-Madden team selection for how many years now? Nearly 20?

And the multiple drumstick thing? And commentating? And coaching?

The game is an adjunct to his career...not the basis for it!

WTF??? Maybe that loss to South Carolina caused you to drink an extra 6-pack and you're just not thinking clearly but you just now clearly contradicted your original post:

I was thinking about this today while playing some Madden 2004, and thought to myself, "Would John Madden be as well-known as he is today without EA and their Madden franchise?"

I personally don't think so. Madden Football has become a pop culture icon, and IMO has made John Madden the man he is today

You have got to be sh1tting me. Tell me, which commentators today did this generation grow up with that they could relate with? Most of these commentators are retired, which means more than likely, they weren't even playing when these gamers were playing their games.
