seriously, i have a ati 9600 and can't say i have any complaints. i have one game, a subsim, silent hunter 111 and don't expect that to change. i was thinking strictly ati only because my current card has been reliable but still pretty far down the generational chain... i think. anyway, what i thought was a newer card and better, the x700, was cheaper than a 9800pro which i thought was older and slower what i'd like is a suggestion or two to investigate, a decent upgrade but not necessarily top of the line. it need'nt be a ati brand but i guess i'd like ati chips. dual DVI would make me happly also. thanks.

They're putting the 9800 pro above the x700's i'm guessing b/c of the 256 bit interface

I have a 9600xt and i'm leaning towards getting a x700, its about 15-20% faster and cheaper than what i get for my card but if your staying on agp get a used 9800 pro

thanks folks. from looking at that performance chart and the necessity that i go agp, i think a decent upgrade is going to be an x800 series. expensive though.

I don't think the x700 is worth it over the 9600xt..

I say x800xl, or 6800GT.. Or hang on for another month or two and see what nVidia drops.

Depending on what games you intend to play in the future and what budget you have in mind.

$165 AGP 6600GT for most games at 1600x1200 without anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering
$290 AGP 6800GT for most games at 1280x1024 with AA/AF.

got a x700 pro agp. 3dmark03 score increased by 75% over the previou cards. what i'm going to do with it i have no idea. lol
