Hello Everyone.

Yes, I know, another one of these threads. Anyways...
I would like to build a SFF gaming PC; now as for why, well I like the idea of having something small but pretty powerful.

I have picked out a few things, and I hope they will play nice with eachother. Still need the motherboard, maybe better power supply, and dvd burner. My budget is below $1000.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. :)

Thank you for the quick reply. Does it matter if you go with Intel or AMD as your CPU? Maybe it just depends on who you ask. Also, any recommendation of a motherboard?

If you're certain you'll never need 6 GB SATA ports, H61 is fine, otherwise look for a H67 chipset motherboard.

I too own an SFF rig using the very same case (SG05). My parts are very similar to what you plan to use except the SSD and graphics card. I use an Asus Direct CU 6850 and let me tell ya... it feels a bit cramped. I would be careful to make sure that your card will be short enough to fit in the machine. If not, you can opt for the shorter aftermarket variations like the offering from Sapphire.

A Radeon 6950 will not fit in a SG05 (maximum supported is 9" long). Only the SG07 can fit a 6950 (12.2" supported). Radeon 6950's range from 10.5" long (reference) designs to a little around 11".

The longest and most powerful card you can probably fit will be a 6870 (I have a SG05 with a 6850 in it and it barely fits), but 6870s shouldn't be much longer (if the ASUS Direct CU 6850 fits then 6870s should fit actually). Make sure the external PCI-E power connections to the video card come from the top and not the side or it definitely will not fit.

With the money you're saving you might want to step up to to a 128GB SSD.

The 9" is more of a recommended size limit than the actual. You can definitely fit a larger card in there, although it takes some wiggling. My card (Asus 6850 DirectCU) is about 10.3" and it fit with a little bit of room to spare.

If you go for the Sapphire 6950 1GB, which uses the same PCB/cooling as the 6870 variant, you will be able to fit the card. Here is the card itself (a very good deal at the moment):

Concerning the case issue, would it be better to get the shuttle kp10 instead? Just to avoid possible hassle.

Be aware that the SG05 450w has had some reported problems of loud chirping and BSOD when pulling over 300w. Until SS can figure out the problem I'd suggest going with a Lian-Li Q08 or the SG07. Or possibly even a Shuttle unit.

Thanks for the warning. I'm building a new gaming system soon myself and was seriously considering the SG05 for the tiny size.

Thank you everyone for all of your help. I think I will get a shuttle case (SH67H3) with a motherboard pre-installed and the included power supply.

Shuttle for SFF always, best cooling without the noise. Go with the fastest intel i7 you can afford, lots of ram and a decent video card.
For gaming you don't want a low power saving processor.
