Would like benchmarks that have 7800GT SLI vs x1900, x1800 and 7800 GTX 512

I went from 2 7800GT's to a single 1900XT. For me, faster != better so I take benchmarks with a huge grain of salt when they are that close. The speed difference between the two isn't noticable, however the IQ *in the XTs favor* is. I do miss Nvidia's drivers / driver panel though =/. Hopefully this gets better as tray tools/ati tool support matures.

To be perfectly honest, the two configs are pretty damn close. I would say if you have either, you aren't missing much from the other side. While I would choose the X1900Xt if I were starting from scratch, I don't think its worth the trouble of sidegrading if you already have a GT SLI setup.

All IMO of course.

I went from a GTX512 to an x1800XT and the "IQ advantage" is little to non-existant. The ATi drivers more than make up for any IQ enhancement, making sure I have problems gaming. ATi isn't worth buying simply because of the drivers.

Wins in some, loses in others, depending on which site you browse, which games are run, and what settings they're run at. It really is too close to give either one a "victory".

Not really. You can get an XT for right around $500. 2 GTs (new) will be higher. Though you may be able to find used ones for $250ea.

I've never seen the IQ advantage first-hand since I've never compared both at the same time on identical machines-- it really would be impossible for me to do that. However, from what I have seen in articles online, the IQ difference isn't enough for me to be swayed either way.

As for your last part-- I can't imagine that to be true. Or there are a LOT of users and website reviewers out there just kidding themselves that they're actually running games without a problem. I mean, seriously, drivers are the bane of the software/hardware industry. Problems exist with every vendor across the board. Impuning an entire brand of video card because you had some problems is a bit rash.

We're talking about the GTs beating the $620+ XTX here, not the XT.

I've had both setups (SLI'd 7800GTs and card in sig) and like Yreka stated, they are very close performance wise. It was an easy choice for me since:

1) The games I really needed the extra performance in (FEAR and COD2) perform better on the X1900XT.

2) The X1900XT is much easier to overclock as it doesn't need voltmods to hit some crazy speeds.

3) The added IQ benefits (although some have mentioned that it's not that huge)

4) Ease of dealing with one card (heat) and not having to deal with profiles (worked about 85% of the time so they were pretty good but not great).

The X1900XT really starts to show its teeth at higher resolutions with a lot of AA/AF.

There is nothing wrong with ATI's drivers. If you are switching from nvidia you will have to run driver cleaner or perhaps in extreme cases, reformat, because it seems nvidias drivers don't like to clean up after themselves very well. If you're having problems with ATI drivers you're either doing something wrong, or have hardware issues.

I did a fresh format.

Theres the crappy performance in AOE3, crashing on minimizing D3D games, generally poor CCC performance and issues.... I wont be buying ATi for a while. If you have no issues good for you.

I had far more problems with my 6600GT and nvidia drivers than my 9800 pro and ati drivers...

Aside from the somewhat slow boot of CCC (which required a few seconds patience is all), i really didn't have any problems with my ATI drivers at all (and i played a lot of games with my 9800 pro).

Whereas i had a whole string of problems with coolbits, the overclocking thing was borked for a while and wouldn't let me BACK OFF my overclock (which was apparently a general problem, not just me), i can't get HD decoding working with my 6600GT and WMP (and it worked flawlessly with my 9800 Pro), and the shimmering (which i understand is a very personal issue) is very noticeable to me, especially in Farcry and Hl2...

I appreciate the extra power of the 6600GT, and i'm happy with it overall (i plan to grab a 6800GS or a 7800GS for my next upgrade), but i did have a much better experience with ATI drivers. Takes all sorts i guess

I already have the beefy PSU so there wasnt much reason not to go dual GTs...
