Would it be ok to leave cell phone hooked into the car 24/7?

I'm not much of a cell phone user. Usually I leave it off and only turn it on if I need it. Now I want to leave it on but keep forgetting to recharge it since it's just in the car. Will the car battery run into any trouble if I leave the cell phone hooked in and on 24/7? I don't imagine the cell phone will be on if the car is not used for more than 3 days.
Guess I should also consider problems for the cell phone, if it's plugged in 24/7.

Where do u live? What about the cold? I'd be careful about if it gets too cold. In the summer it'll get too hot and your cell will be toast.

Many cars, especially older ones, do not provide any power to the cig lighter when the ignition is off. Not sure about newer cars with "power ports" or whatever retarded name they come up with for a crippled cigarette lighter. That being said, I can't imagine it being enough of a parasitic load to be a problem.

my 'new' car doesn't provide power while off and it's an 03. my old 91 did.

Mine's an '01 and it provides power after turning it off. Not sure if it applies once the door is opened. I'm in NJ so it can get cold outside (17 or tonight).

I wouldn't worry about it unless it was plugged in for more than a week without starting the car.

Just think your radio and computer are among things that are constantly drawing power from the battery.

My truck powers both lighter plugs as long as the battery's connected and the fuse is in good condition. I leave my Zune plugged in 24/7 (the battery's gone on it, lasts about 12 seconds).

Edit: It sat once for 6 days without being started when I was out of work during November. The truck fired right up the evening of the 6th day. A Zune is a hard drive, so I'd say it uses more power than a cell phone - but then I have a deep-cycle heavy duty battery, too.

Your car should be able to take it as long as your battery is in good shape. However, you could be damaging the phone, especially this time of year. You should check & find the recommended operating temperature. For my iPhone, it is 32 to 95 degrees F, so there is no way I'd leave it in the car everyday.

Hehe...remember "car phones" that were designed for this? I think the car itself should be able to take it as long as its electrical system is ok. Just beware of environmental/temperature effects on your phone itself. Other than that it should be fine.

I would guess that it wouldn't be a problem from the car's perspective. We're talking about pretty minimal power consumption compared to any of the car's regular accessories, especially if you're leaving it turned off. Then it's just the charger's internals and whatever drip current is topping off the phone's battery.
