As a non-U.S. Anandtech member... ahh, screw it, who am I kidding?

Actually, you know what? Go on believing that you're right about the rest of the world being "dangerous", "corrupt", "shithole" etc.

There is America between the West and East coasts too. 🙂

Think Iowa or Kansas. 50K house + some land for your farm or something. Within ~50 miles of some metropolitan.

This, where my parents live the median home price is in the $40K's(think 3Bed 2bath), you can also get high speed internet and cable. of course the nearest major metropolitan area (Denver, KC, Wichita) is over 4+ hours away.

It's not that I don't think rest of the world isn't nice but living standards in rest of the world are way below the US. Sure you could live elsewhere around the world like the US but then it would cost just as much if not more.

I've met people online from Argentina, and they aren't in any hurry to leave. I'd live in select countries in South America, and really, just about any continent. Africa's really the only question. I don't like heat, and South Africa's pretty sketchy anymore.

My sister lived in Ecuador for 2 years, the rent on her two story, single family house was $32 USD, electricity was about $1 USD/month. So I'd say a half million is a little too much 🙂

I need idiots thought ... the entertainment would be missed.

I've considered moving to another country, but visa's and shit are a pita.

Half million will buy you some protection money. When they drain your bank accounts they will bury you in a hole.

Try looking up expatriate forums on the web. There seem to be quite a few out there. I'd say that some countries are fine, but my main concern is that the level of healthcare is generally lower than the U.S., and in your golden years, that's when you need healthcare the most.

How come no love for the Midwest? Cost of living here is cheap, and, we're friendly. Our winters aren't very nice, though. I'm in NEBRASKA.

Hmm, tropical paradise, rain forests, and sultry latinas vs. cornfields...

Yeah, not sure which one I'd choose there... 😉
