Would I benifit from the bump from 512 to 1gb (4670)?

Just built a cheaper desktop (e8400, 8gb ram, asus p5qSE Plus), and currently running my old Ati X800xt in it. Need to upgrade to a new graphics card, and am mainly looking at the 4670. Would I utilize 1gb of ram? Im not a huge gamer at all, so Im not concerned with setting my games at super high resolutions or detail levels, so I would assume just go with the 512, but then Im thinking maybe since Im running it with a 30" monitor, it might be in my best interest to go with the 1gb card. I dont run any games at super high res, maybe touching 1680x1050, but its not a big deal. I do run my desktop at 2560x1600 though, and dont run much on it thats video card intensive.

At the same time, would I be better paying the same price for the 1gb 4670 to go with a 512 4830, even though Im not going to overclock it.

Also, I dont plan on hanging on to this system as my gaming computer for too long, probably 6mo to a 1yr at most.

huge thanks for any help

since you say you aren't holding onto the system very long i'd say it's not a big deal.
but I would recommend the 1GB version if the price difference was small <20 bucks and you wanted to keep the card for over a year or two.
It's more or less a future proofing decision from my perspective.

The 4830 for $75 AR deal on the Hot Deals forum might be your best bet. However, keep in mind that the 4830 uses almost four times the idle power of the 4670, so if you really aren't doing serious gaming, you may care about power consumption. See THIS REVIEW for power consumption numbers for the 4830 and 4670.

Excellent choice 😀

Nice purchase. You wont regret it at all. When i got my 4830 for $99 i felt like i got a steal. $75 is such little $$ on a bad ass video card.
