I wanna backup my emails, addresss book, anything else important in outlook XP. I have scoured the forums through the search and im under this impression i can save everything by doing a import/export and saving under a .pst file at a location i provide. is that correct?

Yes, thats correct, I do it 1 time a month (export to PST for backup purpose).
It saves your folders on the mailbox (Inbox, Sent, Deleted, etc....) to the 1 .PST file, as well as saving your address book/contacts.

The only thing that doesnt change over is the email accounts and the views that you customize (like "Subject" column width).
--but Im sure those are in some other file that can be copied/replaced in new setup.

On a quick note, while it will get all your folders it will not get any rules or account setup info. Account info you'd have to just know, rules you can export on their own if they are important. To do that you would go to tools, rules wizard, options, you can export from there. Just thought I'd mention it (Outlook is my specialty). Other than that, yup, it gets everything. You can even get a utility to back it up regularly for you if you want, just go to this article anyhow, too much information, maybe :)
