Las Vegas is a city built with the sole intent of separating you from your money. It is possibly the tackiest city I've ever seen. :p

Ok, I'll bite. Tell me what you can do there when you aren't 21. The only thing I can't think of are shows.

Thank you...this is what I have heard you can do. ;)

Seriously tho, it has changed from a gamblers oasis to a family destination. Now do not get me wrong, I would never suggest bringing kids but they have made attrations with families in mind. It is still sin city and you can get in a BUNCH of trouble if you want but you can also get away from some of it as well.

Go to the hoover dam, take a helicopter tour. cruise the strip. Be creative for cryin out loud.

and besides the whole not being able to drink or gamble..it was pretty fun. There's a lot to do for people not 21.

Yup, you are surrounded by slot machines, table drinks, and alcohol, and you aren't allowed to touch.

All of the stuff you listed can be done anywhere. Why would you fly or drive all the way to Vegas to do that?

i had fun, and no one carded me on the slots, but other than that...ya, it did suck. If you do go, just see a bunch of shows, stay only a couple days. You will have fun, and by the time it tarts to get boring it will be time to go home.

Eh..I still say if you're under 21, go somewhere else. Mexico comes into mind. At least you can drink and party. I remember when I was 20, we decided to vacation in either Hawaii or Vegas. I'm glad we chose Hawaii. Had a helluva time. :)

vegas is ugly IMHO, dry dry land, extremely hot, and you cant look 1 direction without seeing a new housing dev. being built.

by the way, how is parking in vegas? if i get a cheaper hotel, it's most likely further away from the cooler hotels like bellagio...

would driving to that area to find parking be a drag? or is it more worht it to shell out an extra 20-30$+ to get a hotel closer by the good stuff?

Casino/outlet/themepark/attraction parking is usually free. IIRC, they charged for parking at that crappy mall though. Driving down the strip is a biatch though. It will take ya at least 15 min just to go from mandalay bay to stratosphere on your average day.

And what do you mean by cheaper hotels? Do you mean circus circuis? Or motel 6? And generally you'll be parking outdoors in a cheaper hotel. Outdoor parking = your car = hot as a$$

cheaper hotels as in, tropicana, san remo, bourbon street, gold coast, and barbary coast.... the cheap hotels closest to the good stuff (MGM, Bellagio, NYNY) on the strip

the 4 "cheaper" hotels mentioned are my top prospects...likely to go with tropicana

here's a map to let you get an idea of what i'm talkin about

I would recommend waiting for your birthday. rent a car for $27.00 a day and stay out on bolder highway where prices never change, you can get a nice apartment for about $200.00 a week at the Budget Suits. It is the pits being in Vegas without a car.

I say yes it would suck.

Even if you have no desire to gamble, you can get chased out by just hanging out near the tables/slots/whatever. The first time I went and was legal I got tired of being harrassed and got a wrist band - point of that story is that yes, they will ID you constantly if you are fortunate enough to look young.

Granted, there is stuff you can see (check out Mystere) however, hell it is Vegas so you want the OPTION at least to gamble. When I stayed at the Grand the first time I went, it was cool to just hang out in their Sport's Bar area, but you could not even do that if you are under 21.

I am with everybody else that say wait until you are lega. Vegas isn't going anywhere.

Gameworks was fun, for about 10 minutes. (I'm 22 if that matters). ;)

When I went (about 2 weeks ago) it was my first time and I had fun looking around at the different hotels/casinos. My girlfriend is 18 and had fun walking around with me, but after the first couple days I started to feel like I was babysitting her since I wanted to gamble a bit. We did go and watch her parents gamble for a while and we did get carded twice...once at Boardwalk and another time at a casino on Freemont.

Driving on the strip took forever, but valet parking was free (well, a tip) so it worked out well.

Oh, we had a good time at the Luxor. Just looking around at everything and at the time they had The Matrix Reloaded running at the Imax there :D Buffet was good too.

Weekend rates are much higher - suckers rolling in from CA and flying in from whereever for the week-end off.
