Would banning firearms lower murder and suicide rates?

Poverty isn't the only factor. There are alot of youths that just buy into certain ideals and lifestyles, even if they come from decent families. There are just some that buy into the idea that they're being "cool" or "hard" or "gangsta" or whateverthehell. The whole "If you ain't from the hood you ain't up to no good" or "if you ain't white, you ain't right" frame of mind. Its just sad. These aren't quotes I made up, btw. Heard them more times than I can count.

yeap. i went to highschool in a town that is mainly farmers or people that work for the local college (NIU). so its mainly what you would consider middle class (90% white).

we still had many kids that acted like that. its actually funny to see a white kid who grew up on the farm talk and try to act like he is from downtown chicago.

Maybe if there was a high tax on guns and it was harder to buy illegal firearms it would work the way we control cigarattes and liquer through high taxes. Follow the money and go for racketeering charges.

As far as suicides are concerned, most aren't done by firearms and if a person wants to off himself there are plenty of ways to do it without a gun.

More children are killed in bicycle accidents than gun accidents. But what what are a few children's lives when compared to the bicycle industry?

I doubt many kids are killed in bicycle accidents. There might be kids on bikes who get killed by adults driving motor vehicles.

which is why licenses to drive motor vehicles, and to own guns, ought to require a lot more training and rigorous enforcement.

that's what we would do if we wanted to do are best for kids.

It probably would but then the murder/suicide by Crossbow would probably go up.

You can lower the incidence of the above crimes by dealing with folks who do them before they find the need. Drugs and gang violence can be sorted out with effort. Start there and watch the rates drop.

I use to love the beach but ever since I read that the odds of a plane crash were about the same as being eaten by a great white shark in shallow water I stay way far away from the beach where sharks are and airports where planes are.

I wonder if we had five times the number of guns would there be five times the murder/suicide rate?
