Would bacon grease be acceptable to deep-fry in?

I was just postulating since bacon makes everything better, along with cheese and chocolate and a stick... if bacon grease would be suitable in enough quantity as a deep-frying oil.

I'm imagining potato chips cooked in bacon grease... mmm...

Other than the impending heart attack, I'd imagine it could taste pretty damn good.

Nope, smoke point is too low for deep frying. You can save it solidified and cut off small pieces for pan frying stuff like eggs and burgers, that's about it.

the smoke point probably isnt high enough to fry with it alone, but it has a lot of flavor so adding an (un)healthy amount to some frying oil would probably help and still give lots of flavor

edit: wow that was fast :-/

How about some duck fat fries.

Gettem while they are hot

YES, I just went to Hot Doug's for the first time about a month ago and that place is seriously epic. I haven't tried the Duck Fat fries yet though, as they are only available on weekends 🙁

Make it a point to go on a weekend then. Duck fat is the one thing that's as good as bacon grease. There is no better way to prepare a potato than to fry it in duck fat.

I can use some Hot Doug's right now. There's always a 30-45 minute line out the door for the 5 hours it's open. The place is awesome. Had me some rattlesnake sausage the other day...haven't had the duck fat fries thought. Maybe I'll get some this Friday.

So what about possibly pressure cook frying with bacon grease? Would that possibly help any?

i expect that, for many things, the water vapor released from the food, but still contained in the vessel, would ruin whatever you tried to cook.

also, in the event of an emergency, or some accidental sudden de-pressurization, you would probably feel like a bacon-fried retard.

im just guessing.
