Is there a speaker test in the control panel for the sound card? Run that and see if sound comes out the correct speakers.

yea there is but the only way sounds comes out is with the 2 speaker modes enabled and the speakers plugged into line in or the center/bass one

What I am asking is does the sound come out the correct speakers. It probably says "Left" "Right" and a bass note do each of these come out the correct speaker as you have it now?

yea it shows fine. In 2 speaker mode it shows the front speakers working and in hi-sample rate it shows them as the rear ones.

it shows 44.1khz in the sample rate on the right, should it say that or 48? it showed 96 earlier

44.1 is correct. 96 would be the "hi-sample rate" which you don't need to use

so then it looks like everything is working fine? is there anything that I should look out for to increase sound quality?

What's this "performance mode enable" in the options? any clue?

I wish I had this card more recently so I could remember what to tell you.

I think you want to be using the black jack that is closest to the optical output on the card.
I believe you may have to select high sample rate to get the rear output (that you're now using as front stereo) to enable.

I'm doing regular line out but with ASIO output through Winamp. Personally, I think it's better than the Hi-Sample output.

yea i did.

My cpu usage is going nuts here, going from 8-60% all the time. It never happened before this.. Should I just use the normal line-out? I also did the jumper changes on the card to skip amplifying the sound twice.

What is using the processor...also does it go away if you use the normal output?

EnMixCPL.exe seems to do it.

I changed back the jumpers and I am using normal 2.0 from the line out, it seems lesser but it's still an issue. What's the normal cpu usage for a soundcard? it's going from 3-10% constantly. with my onboard audio it was almost always 1-3%

Well just got the Klipsch speakers installed. They sound awesome, way better than my old ones. :) Very happy with them.

Congratulations on an excellent purchase. It's on sale for $55 now at a local store, it was $135 when I got it, but no regrets, got to use it longer. My system's been flawless with the card. Did you use Driver Cleaner? There may be some issues/conflicts with past drivers from the onboard. If it isn't, couldn't hurt to change PCI slots. By the way, I'm about to get either Klipsch Promedia 2.1s or Logitech Z-5500s, currently own Z-2300s, are the Klipschs really that amazing?

55? gee, i paid 220 CDN. They had to special order it from Klipsch since they were sold out.

I'll try driver cleaner, thanks.

Yea they do sound awesome, the sound is loud and clear, it really makes you want to re-listen to all your favorite music (which I am doing now). I don't know about the Logitech, but so far I love these.

Go for it. I love mine. I thought onboard sounded good until I heard my X-Fi. I have nothing but pity for those who can't tell the difference. Like those people who say their 64kbps Limewire MP3s sound as good as EAC/LAME ripped/encoded files. Poor people.

But like someone said, you have to listen to CDs or lossless rips to really appreciate. 64k and 128kbps MP3s snatched from Limewire just don't cut it nowadays.
