Would an mp3 player using a Hitachi CF microdrive be susceptible to damage while jogging?

They've got a good deal on a 4 GB Muvo2 ($199) but it uses a tiny Hitachi microdrive. How much shock would this thing be able to take? I think iPODs use the same drive, but not too sure...

Personal experience or have you read reviews that say this about similar devices?

I've had an IBM Microdrive in my digital camera for over a year now, and it seems to be pretty reliable. Those drives are rated to handle up to 5G of shock, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I wouldn't trust anything that has moving parts when running to be *safe*.

The 5g's isn't much when running or when it is bouncing up and down.

For jogging go with a solid state device.

well, when I usually jog, I put my gloves in the bottle holder, and put my minidisc player on top of the gloves. This kind of dampens the vibrations from the treadmill, but theres still a fair amount of shaking going on. I've never had my minidisc player skip while I was doing this, but MD's are known for this great feature/advantage

For years we've been waiting for high capacity, cheap, solid state memory devices. Now that they're here, you choose tiny HDDs instead!

cheap? A 256 MB solid state player that can hold a couple of hours of music for around $150 versus a player that can hold 15x as much music for $200?

I've known people to use their ipods when jogging or rock climbing (in the gym) and they haven't had any problems with it.

Yeah they can take their chances but I'd rather not if I had an ipod or any other HDD mp3 type of player. Or have the chance that it would fall when I rock climb.

I'd rather go with a solid state device. Lighter and smaller.
