Would an 8cm DVD be better than the 12cm one?

With the new Blu-ray DVDs coming out, fitting 27? GB onto a single sided, single layer disc, wouldn't it be reasonable to have an 8cm disc instead of the old 12cm ones? Based on the storage ratio of 8 and 12 cm CDs, an 8cm blu-ray would fit 8.1 GB onto a single-sided, single layer disc, or 16 on a dual layer one. Maybe not as future proof as the huge capacity of a 12 cm disc, but a pretty substantial amount.
