Would a three year old car with 100k miles generally be worth 25% original price?

If I could find lightly used with the options I want I would. Most all of the used ones I see around here are base models. Like the dealers go and buy up twenty base Foresters only.

You'll still save money used, but out of curiosity I just looked at the price of a base forester; your 24-27k price range is outrageously high. If you're playing this game you have to buy a base model car, option packages have almost no resale value (or sometimes even a negative one). Local dealers are advertising base Foresters for ~$18,900. There's a huge difference between expecting a 19k car to be worth 6k in 3 years vs. a 24-27k car.

2010 2.5X Premium with All Weather packagae is $23,890. add a few options and you get to $25k. Granted this is MSRP, and a couple of the local dealers sell at invoice.

I think I'm a good example.

I have a 2005 Mazda3 with 120,000 miles. Its currently worth about 45% what we paid out the door.

4 year old car going on 5 worth 45% with 120k miles? Sounds like wishful thinking.

You can't look at 2010s yet, to get a deal on those you need to wait until all of the '09s are off the lot. And I repeat, option packages have no residual value. If you must get the 2.5x premium then do so, but skip all the options!

You're kidding yourself :)

06/02/09 GA DLRS Lease $7,100 84,155 Below BLUE 4G A Yes
06/02/09 SKYLINE Regular $5,800 89,490 Below GRAY 4G A Yes
02/25/09 NEWBRGH Lease $5,700 93,204 Avg BLUE 4G 5 No
02/20/09 SAN ANTO Regular $5,700 110,991 Avg RED 4G A Yes
02/17/09 AMERICAN Regular $4,300 122,071 Below GREY 4G 5 Yes

If anyone offers you over ~$6,000 for it they're guaranteeing themselves a loss. ($6,000 = 45% of $13,333). Did you pay more than $13.3k OTD?

The 2010 is what I would want. There are new standard options on the premium model, and some add on options such as fog lights and a hitch are a must. I don't want a stripper moel. but it's not like I'm getting an XT with leather either.
