Would a super computer run games?

Is it theoretically possible to make a super computer compatible with WinXP and run games on it? Provided a super graphics card and massive amounts of memory are added?

If so, could its awesome power be utilized at least somewhat correctly?

no.

and even if you did manage to get it work through an insane amount of emulation programming, it would run like garbage.

Well, Cray makes machines with lots of Opterons in them, and theoretically you could, if drivers exist for the various chipsets (oh, and the graphics card would probably need to be PCI-X---no, not PCI-E), and because of the builtin restrictions on SMP, you would only use possibly a maximum of four of the processors, basically making the rest of them into fancy toasters, and it's a damn waste of resources, but yes, I do think that you could. I would beat the crap out of you for trying, though... 😀

Agree.

Still, imagine 10,000 Opterons all trying to run with an SLI 6800 Ultra setup. Wonder which one would be the bottleneck in a dream reality multi-threaded (as in 10,000 threaded) Doom IV LOL

Since HL2 responds to increases in CPU power better than any other game out there, it would be interesting to see how it does.

Oh yeah, my $50 million supercomputer overclocked does 1,000,030,444,440 frames per second compared to your $51 million supercomputer at 1,000,030,444,400 frames per second.
I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win,I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win,I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win,I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win,I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win,I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win, I win ....
What were we talking about

DOH, must lay off the ATI/NVIDIA INTEL/AMD threads LOL

it would never work anyway. so-called "supercomputers" only work with highly parallelized operations. this is because a supercomputer is essentially many computers working together on a problem.

It is a SUPER COMPUTER. What do you think?

You know how people on this board keep shouting that dual cores won't make your games faster? 10,000 cores unfortunately won't make your games faster either. 😛

It will once we start seeing multi-threaded games.

like the ones listed HERE?

That would be sweet! I would drive down to VA Tech to see what kind of framerates they are getting on Doom3 running on the 7th most powerful supercomputer in the world. Shown Here
🙂

wait...it says that it's running Apple OS X 10.3.7! That means that it SHOULD be able to play all the Mac games!
