Would a realistic FPS game actually be any fun?

Imagine this:
Running speed is 7mph, walking is 4mph. You have an energy counter that goes down whe you run, and up when you walk. You can get maybe a mile or so of constant running in before you deplete your energy and have to wait for it to recharge. The more weapons you're carrying, the slower you can run. One or two shots (depending on where you're hit) and you're dead and out for the rest of the round. You can only carry a realistic amount of weapons and ammunition.

I think people would hate a game that was this realistic.

Yeah, but if you could have your local city modeled into it so that you could give hippies and drunks a beatdown that would more than make up for it. :)

that is what AA (America's Army) tries to do
you can't do any "super human" moves in it
you can only carry two weapons, 1-3 hits and you die

i like it, but it is borked, for some strange reason i get booted when connecting from my home cable modem/LAN :disgust:

games are supposed to give an escape from the real world. make them too realistic and people will think their actions in the game are appropriate for real life.

I perfer partially realistic games such as wolfenstein. It's realistic enough, but keeps things fun.

I think the people who can run flat out for more than a mile are in the minority, personally.

ever played halo??? you can only carry a certain amount of weapons there... and you can only run at a certain speed, not very fast... you don't get out of breath thoguh, that would suck in a game. In cs it only takes a few shots to get dead, and you can only carry a few weapons... when you are being shot at its hard to move as well.

There already is a game like this. It's called Operation Flashpoint.

Run speed slows down the longer you run. You can't carry every weapon in the game. There are vehicles. You can go anywhere and do anything oh HUG mapes (~100 square kilometers)

The graphics are good, but not stunning. Gameplay though is head and shoulders above any other FPS if what you are looking for is combined arms simulation. Co-op multiplayer is some of the most enjoyable I've played. If you can find a good server it's an intense and enjoyable game.

Why would I want a realistic game when I can just join the military and do that in real life.
Of course, without the respawning.

Not until I can put on a full body suit, get 100% realistic graphics, and 100% realistic controls (like, if i want to walk in the game, i start walking forward. if i get shot, i demand PAIN. when I shoot somebody, i want to feel liquid blood running down my fingers)

Give it 50 (or 500) years ;)

Add some more realism to it, you can't play again after you die.

Haha, that'd be crazy. After you die the game self-destructs. No more playing.

and your arms would get tired from holding the gun out in front of you at all times hehe:) carry one, maybe 2 guns max, very little ammo, longer you run, longer you hold your gun without support the more your arms start to shake:) if you don't eat/sleep your vision starts to blur after a while. you have to stop for piss/dump breaks ;)

I'd like more realism with the environment, such as being able to blow holes in buildings instead of needing to find a door or special spot designated to be blown up.

Ditto. I bet only about half a mile flat out with full battle gear, clothes, bag, guns and ammo.

The elite runners run with very clothes that are light. They carry NOTHING. Try doing it with a riffle and everything else I listed and you would be hard pushed flat out. Drop the speed to 75-80% and you can carry on much longer.

I would dig the realistic game.

I would personally like it more if it mapped what *you* were physically capable of in real life. That would be cool for me. I would really enjoy that. How fit you are, how strong you, your physical and mental attributes would be mapped in to the game. Now that would be cool:D

If all real life options are open, it would be as fun as hell.

You can kill in all possible ways, the only limit is your imagination.

Yeah, like Counter Strike for example. That's gotta be one of the most hated games ever.

(rounds are 5 mins, so only 5 mins of running. You slow down when you jump alot. You can only carry 1 weapon and 1 pistol with limited ammo and 3 shots are more than enough to kill you (4-5 if wearing kevlar+helmet))
