Would a overclock on my i5 3570k help BF4 much?

It seems to be at 90% in multiplayer so to get an extra 20% out of it I should need 5 ghz right? Also awhile we are on the BF4 subject how would 16GB vs 8GB go?

Hope this is the right place, it is sort of a 50/50 and I don't want to make two threads.

Your cpu usage averages 90% during multiplayer?

Looking at task manager I would say yes for BF4, about 70% for BF3. I would like to know if there is something like GPU-Z but for the CPU.

EDIT: CPU-Z doesn't monitor the usage like GPU-Z, as I like to save the report.

69 mustang was referring to your "something like GPU-Z but for the CPU" comment. It's called cpu-z. The link for it is right below the picture he posted.\

And yes overclocking your cpu will help with BF4.

Oh right, I didn't get it my bad. I'll give CPU-Z a go, didn't think it measured usage though. I haven't overclocked my CPU yet as I use to have a 550w PSU.

Looking at your build in the signature, you shouldn't have any problem overclocking on a 550w PSU. Ivy Bridge doesn't use all that much power

Considering my old XFX 550w had to be RMA'ed last week and I got a refund it looks like it would of been, it was enough without the overclock to very nearly kill it! :(

If you want an easy OC just aim for 4.4 with a light voltage bump. That's a really common Ivy 3570K target, temps should be very manageable and you'll get virtually all of the performance you would get from a ~4.6 OC with a lot less heat/temp and potential throttling headaches, not to mention stability.

YMMV of course, but that's my advice when OCing basically any CPU. Figure out the common upper limits with your cooler, then back it down a few notches.

I have yet to test BF4, but you can get a glimpse of performance with a single GPU @ 1080P. Of course these are single players results..

With that rig you need to play @ 1024x768 High res it will bring it down to its knees and crash if it has to.

i5 is for normal business man or consumer,,,,, its no CPU for hardcore gaming ,, that is for shure!

CPU AND RAM speed make a huge difference in BF4 multiplayer performance. The higher you crank both, the better.

I tried over clocking my i7 920 for the first time ever today. I went from 2.66 stock to 3.6ghz. I didn't want to go higher because I was worried about temps. I tried loading up BF4 before and after and just running the test range and my fps stayed exactly the same :(

CPU performance only matters in multilayer.

CPU performance only matters in multilayer.

Particularly when you go over 32 players.

My old Core 2 Quad Q9450 could barely keep up at 32 players (40-60 fps depending) but completely died at 48 and 64 players back in BF3.

When the BF4 beta came along, I got 15-25 FPS before the performance patch and 20-40 FPS afterwards, in 32 player servers.

SOOO much better now that I'm on Haswell.

I would sell it and get a 3770K.

Now back on topic...

Considering you have a good PSU listed in your sig, I don't see why you would not want to OC. As other mentioned, CPU clock speed really makes a difference in multiplayer, the more players there are on the server, the higher the impact of the CPU clock speed.

Your CPU is made for overclocking and it should not be that difficult to get it to at least 4GHz and you will most definitely see an fps increase in multiplayer.
