I don't mind trolls.
I do mind stupid.
Sadly, a lot of stupid is tolerated before infractions are issued.

Didn't read the thread, but isn't it a little silly when the inmates starting thinking they can vote on the asylum rules?

from times immemorium...

If you're going to use big words, at least spell them correctly.

You meant immemorial, not that bastardized word that doesn't exist in the dictionary you put up there.

Using big words and writing them incorrectly doesn't exactly make you look smart. Just the opposite.

because the problem is rampant!

thus demonstrating the need for such a toll

Trolling isn't a problem with a community this dumb. People have to constantly ask whether posters are "stupid or trolling," making the identification of legit trolling quite difficult and impractical. Is nahelem trolling 100% of the time, for example? Who can tell? In that case, does it matter? Just give everyone the benefit of the doubt and operate on the assumption that they're sincerely stupid instead of insincere.

In theory it seems like it would work but then there's always people who wouldn't mind (can afford) paying money to post and troll. I realize your OP didn't say it could completely eliminate trolling, but I voted that overall a forum would improve if the pay system was instituted.

yeah i thought about that, billionaires might be able to afford to beat the system

but i think with an aggressive equation (perhaps cubic or exponential) the penalty could quickly become insurmountable for even the richest person in the world. this could also effectively implement a "three strikes youre out" for people of normal means

the troll tide is showing no signs of waning

we might need to put this in place before the forum fuses due to critical troll mass
