Would a HARD DRIVE ATA/100 WOULD CAUSE ERROS IF RUNNING UNDER A ATA/66 CARD?

I am having problems with files missing after formating the hard drive and
reinstalling windows2000. I Install everything and then i shut down.
and then when i try to boot up again it would say things like
missing file ine c:\winnt\system32\SYSTEMced.
and also on another reinstall it would say things like missing files in registry.

are you overclocking?

is this a new hard drive, or haveyou previously tested it and know "it is good"

It's a replacement that dell gave me for a bad hard drive.

More info please. What makes you believe that the drive is ATA100 ?? Some drives have a utility to change speeds. What happened to your original drive ?? maybe the controller is bad.

It is possible if the cable you are using is not an Ultra cable

The same thing that is happening to me now happened to the original drive.
The original drive was a UDMA66 drive from maxtor. a 10giger.
now they replaced it with a newer model wich is a UDMA100.
but I know WIN2000 is a Solid and stable OS.
But its after install and usually after install and anywhere from
5 mins to few weeks. that the missing file stuff starts happening.
or if i shut the computer off and start it up again.
i get missing files. like missing a file in c:winnt\system32\systemced
or missing a registry file somewhere. and i get corrupt user settings.
when i try to log in. the missing file in c:\winnt\system32\systemced
and the registry stuff. wont let me boot at all. once the missing file stuff
happens i have to reinstall windows2000. I really don't know what to do at this point. I am thinking of getting a ATA100 controller card. and getting a replacement from DELL for a nother drive. so if anyone can help me. Id really
