Would a Geforce 3 help Ghost Recon at all?

I'm getting pretty low frames on GR, i know it's a slow game, but i play arcade mode and like to rage sometimes. I'm getting around 30fps, sometimes under depending on where I am. I have a Athlon 1.53Ghz tbird and a Geforce 2 Pro. I'm wondering if a Ti500 will increase frames any.

Sounds to me like something else is wrong with your system. What resolution are you running at? How much RAM? Ghost Recon shouldn't be lagging on a Geforce 2 Pro...

aswedc is right, I have a GeForce 2 GTS and am also running a 1.6 Ghz Amd XP. I run all over the play and I haven't experienced any problems, but I am also have 512mb of ram. I have my resolution set at 32bit at 800x 600. How much ram are you using? plus, Have you overclocked your GeForce? because you could have an information bottleneck in the GPU itself depending on how hard you push it.

GR is more than passable on my Geforce 2 GTS at home, great on my Geforce 3 at school. i would bump down the resolution first, and make sure there is nothing else running while u are playing. also, perhaps in the advanced display properties you made it always use 32bit textures? that will really put your card under stress.

tap the number pad "enter" while in game and type <toggleframerate>

I get about 20fps on a p3/500 and I also see about 20fps on a 1600+... Judging by other Ghost Recon forums it's a common issue and Red Storm is currently making a patch for it.

Is number lock on? Did you look in the key config menu? I don't know how to remap while I'm here at work... I'll look tonight.

My GF3 made a significant difference in performance for Ghost Recon. Without the GF3 (had a GF2 beforehand), I could only run the game in 640x480 with 32bit color (with all other visual options on). With the GF3, I can run 1024x768, 32bit color and every visual option to the max.

You can run the game without a GF3, but the game is really a DX8 game, so any video card that handles DX8 in hardware will make Ghost Recon fly!

Try get some comparison frames, like the average for the first stage, it's full of trees and you can see pretty far.

If you are going to upgrade just get a ti200 most will OC to near ti500 speeds and some will surpass them. New egg has them for $150 or less if you know when to look PM me if you want more info on when brosky 😛

I've just had some postive Ghost Recon results. Two nights ago I very slowly went through my BIOS and managed to fix my fps problem.

I have a +1600, MSI 266a, Geforce MX2 400, and Win2k. Here's what I did... Forced AGP to 4X, set all my RAM settings to aggressive speed.

My fps in GR went from 20 to about 35 at 1152 with all details maxed out and no shadows. So I'm happy. Hope this info can help.

After doing some 20 benchmarks chaning a billion settings, i found that GR works best in Win98. Also O/C Geforce helps a lot. Both the mem and core help. Proc speed does almost nothing, compared a P800 with a Athlon 1.53, doubling CPU speed didn't help. Also memory doesn't help much at all too (speed, timing, and amount). Looks like this baby is made for Geforce 4!!! I can't wait!!!

The shadows are the killer so switch 'em off for higher framerates. Hopefully the upcoming patch will deliver on a bit more performance but I ain't expecting a miracle. Can you say Radeon 9500?

Exactly, it's a known issue that having Shadows maxed will kill the frame rate. drop it down a notch. As far as seeing a difference, YES. I run at 1152x864x32 w/ 32 tap Aniso and 2x FSAA, everytime, all the time. I have a XP 1800, 512 Crucial, A7V266E, and ti200 @210/460. Runs fine, in the 30s on the big outdoor maps with lots of swaying trees, 50-60 in Embassy. Looks sweet with 32 tap Aniso and 2x FSAA.

Hey kevin, did you set 2xAA on your desktop settings? I tried that with ghost recon and it ran quite blurry. We have close specs except I have an EPOX. What's 32 tap Aniso?

yes, just set 2x FSAA in there, then to be able to set the higher level filtering settings (Anisotropic filtering), you need a tweaking program like nvmax or Rivatuner
Anisotropic filtering sharpens the image, so running 2X FSAA with aniso is sweet. 32 tap is pretty high, the GF3 can even do 64 tap.
