Would a dead video card cause this?

May be your video card. Does your HDD light show activity? Does your computer sound like its booting up, but you don't see anything?

What exactly is happening?

no beep's no Hard drive light. and it dosen't sound like it's booting, but the hard drive does spin up.

and the ONboard LAN light is also on.

What hardware are you using and did tou remember to connect all of the power connectors to the motherboard (the 4 pin 12 volt especially)

Those things just show that their getting power. If its not trying to boot, it is most likely your mobo.

I think this also. anyone else think this also so I can order a new MOBO?

Sforsyth,

My motherboard died last week, and when it was inoperable the green light on the MOBO still lit up, the CPU fan engaged, and the hard drive had power as well. It sounds like your problem is a MOBO issue as well, so I suggest replacement.

You might check the forums for more in-depth testing methods that you could follow in order to make certain that your MOBO is in fact dead.

While your MOBO is out of commission, I also strongly recommend that you consider whether upgrading to a new MOBO might be prudent. It is sometimes hardly more expensive to buy a new board with more DIMM slots for RAM, multiple PCIe channels, and so forth.

I wish I could Upgrade but I have a XP3200 Socket A aswell as a x800XL AGP video card so I really don't think it will be worth it to upgrade as much as I would love to.

Hi, HD will run and calibrate even if the IDE cable is not connected. MB light only says that it's getting power. Strip it down to MB, PS, one stick of MEM, Processor and Video. Try to boot. If it posts then start adding stuff. You should soon have a clue as to what the problem is. Luck, Jim

Check your power supply. It's quite possible for power supply with one or more failed capacitors to still be able to deliver enough power to spin up the fans and turn on the LEDs but not power-up the system. I had this exact problem a month ago with a Zippy brand (fairly well-respected) rackmount PSU.

I just took my video card from this dead system out to put into my secandary PC and it did the same thing to my 2nd pc so I'm thinking now it's the video card, what do you think now?
