Would a dark colored dining room set look good here?

It might look okay but would make the whole room darker. I'm all about light. In fact I'd put a skylight in that kitchen before I thought about new furniture. Except those chairs don't look too comfortable.

Definitely no metal. Probably not glass either.

Maybe something else that is counterheight, but then the kids wouldn't be able to get in and out themselves.
