would a bad vehicle speed sensor cause a bouncing idle and engine shut off

CEL code was showing speed sensor problem. Checked that and it doesn't seem to be the problem. Could I have a bad ground wire?

How do you know it wasn't the VSS? Did you replace it?

I wouldn't think the VSS affects RPM or engine performance - it should affect ABS/TC systems and of course the speedo. Speed governor as well.

Idle is usually fuel, emissions (i.e. O2 sensors), or intake related.

brother replaced the VSS with one pulled from the junkyard. Eventhough it's from the yard to me it's unlikely that even the junkyard one is on the fritz.

I would check the Idle Speed Contoll. I don't see how the VSS would be causing this.

just replace the damn sensor already and see what happens

edit: started this before you said you changed it already. know anyone with a scope? i'd start testing sensors system by system.
