would a Antec P180 be enough to quiet my 7900gt?

I cant decide whether or not to change my case from a Silverstone Temjin TJ06 to the Antec P180 in hopes of muffling the jet engine of a fan on my 7900.

anyone else been in this situation?

You'd be better off changing the cooling on the card itself to something quieter IMO.

I used the stock cooling on the 7900GT in my P180 for awhile and although it was slightly muffled, I still found the noise unbearable. The noise signature of the 7900GT's tiny fan is obnoxious and no amount of dampening is really going to change that.

It basically sounded like a muffled blow dryer, or someone using a vacuum cleaner in another area of the house.

what board do you have?? in most boards the VF700 and VF900 wont hinder your ability to SLI. In fact a VF900 will cool better then your stock cooling.

Also, to answer your question no. A p180 will not silence that loud cooler. It wont even be silenced in a SonataII case.

Save yourself the cash, just get a VF900. It will make a world of a difference.

And YES the stupid stock heatsink on the 7900GT is horribly loud. Makes me thankful the only time i ever heard them roar was on inital testing to see if the cards were non DOA.

the case is hardly a factor in noise reduction when you have screaming fans. you would need a case made of 4 inches of wood if you wanted a noise reducing case.

Yup, i have the vf-900 on my 7900Gt and i can barely hear it 🙂

Question: If you are using a ASUS A832N mobo with 2 x 7900GT in SLI *and* wanting the new Creative X-Fi sound card will the VF-700 and VF-900 coolers still fit? I know two 7900GTXs will fit with a sound card on this mobo, albeit rather cramped, but I'm wondering if those VF coolers will allow everything to fit as well. I'm guessing they will but would like confirmation on that.

Also I hear people using the cooling off of a 7900GTX. Where are they getting these? Ebay? I didnt think you could get them unless you buy the 7900GTX.

Like stated, case won't help if there's loud fans. Get a VF900 since it's low profile and also has good performance. It will keep things quiet and cool.
