Would a 6800GT be CPU limited

I want to replace my aging 21' CRT with a 2005fpw. In my current situation with a 5900xt I can only play at "acceptable" framerates at 1024x768 with only moderate eyecandy. I figured that if I replace the monitor I need to replace the video card too, but I'm wondering if then my CPU will be severely limiting the overall performance to the point where I would be better off replacing everything.

Your comments are appreciatted.

2.66 IS 533fsb correct?

Bumping up to 1GB of ram will help quite a bit in current games..

I figure @ 2.4ghz this AXP is about on par with a P4 3ghz (800mhz) and my 6800GT screams..

I would say you are slighty limited now, but then again, once you eventually upgrade your CPU as well, your 6800GT will still be able to use all that bandwidth..

i say go for the 6800GT.

Or even the X800XL to save $100

Thanks for you comments. A 6600GT wouldn't be what I consider a real improvement. I guess I'll have to try with the 6800GT and see how it works. The 800XL would be an excelent option but my motherboard is AGP.

what would be better is to tough it out or replace everything with a pci-e system.

Slightly, but turn on AA or AF and you'll get the most out of the card.
