people are idiots if they say lcd's are bad for gaming. present day lcd's are very good and arent a problem at all. the 2005fpw is one of the best lcd's you can get for your money (after those dell coupons) and its a great performer. i play UT2k4, guild wars, cs, HL2, Doom 3, and Farcry on it and its flawless. widescreen = sexay.

It will work well, provided that you don't mind a little image degradation in most games. See, most games stretch or clip the image to get it to display on a 16:10 (widescreen) monitor when outputting to widescreen. It's an unfortunate state of affairs, but it's the way things are. CS:S is a notable exception to this rule (it actually generates a wider image with more on screen, which makes widescreen monitors BETTER for it), but I think the image is stretched as usual for the original CS. I'm not a CS player, so I have no idea which one you're referring to, sorry.

You'd probably want to use the monitor's native resolution, which is 1680x1050. LCDs look best when run at native res.

if you run the game at a 16:10 resolution theres no stretching going on.

I'm not an idiot, and I'm not saying lcd's are bad for gaming, but your silly if you think my 2005fpw is as good as my CRT for CS: Source. Things are definitely transiently fuzzy whipping around corners fast, and I get a tearing effect even with vsync enabled (not sure why.)

So, it's not flawless, but if you are willing to compramise, like myself, you'll like the monitor. Widescreen is very cool, and it's a really bright monitor with good color. And the deal is indeed unbeatable.

no lcd is good for gaming...
however that doesn't mean they are bad.
they still continue to get better, the latest ones are much better than the old ones. if you want one go for, if you wind up hating it you should be able to get rid of it at not too bad of a loss...

I've played CS:Source on several monitors (including a 700 IBM CAD WOrkstation CRT w/ DVI) and I've played it on my cheap 17" dell lcd. Honestly I see very little difference. I cant see any reason to not get an LCD at this point.

reasons : native res and low refresh rate and high response time.

face the facts crt's are better at this point technically speaking.
