Would a 1.3Ghz Athlon run on a KT133 board (no a)

No. The reason is, the 1.33GHz runs on a 133MHz FSB. You may get it to run at 1GHz with 100MHz FSB. The chipset doesn't support FSB speeds of above 107-110MHZ.
 
Doesn't the 1.3 run at 100 fsb? Even if it does 133, it should work with a K133 set, just at a lower fsb...am I wrong?
 
The 1.33GHz runs at 10 x 133MHz.

You'd have to figure out how to change the FSB before installing it because the FSB is fixed using a set of the bridges...
 
It would run, but since the multiplier is only a 10 it would run as a 1ghz. You could unlock it and up it to a 1.25ghz then OC the FSB and you might get it up to 1.3, but stock it would only be a 1ghz.
 
Guys, i think hes talking about the suposed 1.3GHz 200 FSB Athlon, not the 1.33GHz with 266FSB......if such as thing is released then id have to say yes, cause why on earth would AMD release it otherwise ?
 
A 13x multiplier is too much... even the terrible Celeron didn't go above 11.5
your Athlon will not scale well enough to bother with there.

This is a real neat situation. 1.3 Athlon 100fsb would need a 13x multiplier. Most multi's present day go to 12.5. I asked about this and someone said that on the chip would post at 13 if you set multiplier at 12.5. Or that this same thing happened in the K26 era. I don't understand.

 
yeah i know a 13 multiplier is a bit much, but many people still arent aware of such things....so what is AMD to do but release it.

It could be achieved by remapping the multipliers so that if, say, a 7x multiplier was used, the chip would interpret that as 13x....dont forget, this is how we got to 12.5 in the first place, cause my dear old classic her only has up to 10.5.......
 
People.... hes talking about the 1.3GHz Athlon NOT the 1.33GHz Athlon. The 1.3GHz T-Bird uses the 100/200MHz FSB just like the older t-birds.
And to answer your original question, you'll need a BIOS update to support above 12.5x multipliers but other than that you'll be fine.
 
i tried it in my old abitkt7 at using (user setting) 12.5*100 boots up appeared as 1300*104 used latest bios for it though and check with ssandra, cpuid tells me 1300mhz
 
Thank you eeut-I thought my mobo was broken. I have a Kt7-Raid and at 12.5 multipier the fsb is +4 than what you set it to -so at 100mhz fsb it really is 104, 101 is 105, 102 is 106..etc-very strange

The KK133 chipset is supposed to support upto 15X multiplyer. It doesn't even make any sense comparing a Celeron to a Tbird. Besides the Tbird multiplyers aren't even &quot;correct&quot; because the Tbird runs at 200FSB and 266FSB.

When I set my 1.1Ghz Tbird on an Asus A7V 11Xmultiplyer @ 100mhz, it's actually 5.5Xmultiplyer @ 200FSB. Am I wrong here, if so please correct me.
 
nod.. comparing the Tbird multiplier to the Celly's is apples to oranges.

The celly runs on a 66/100mhz bus, with 66/100mhz memory. Thus your celery might be running at 11.5 multiplier.

The Tbird runs on a 100/133mhz DDR bus, with 133mhz/133mhzDDR memory.

This means that, for a TB 1.3ghz on a kt133, your effective multiplier to FSB is only 6.5. To SDR memory, it would be ~9.7.

Neither of those is particularily extreme. It only seems so when you look at the multiplier out of context.

 
If I'm correct then the multipliers are right. The althon has an effective bus rate of 200 or 266. The physical bus rates are still actually 100 or 133, respectively, but it's DDR so you effectively get 200 or 266.

If anyone does a search on Pricewatch, you can see that the 1.3Ghz 100/200Mhz FSB CPU's are coming... They aren't on the CPU page yet, but do a 1.3Ghz search.

A CPU that can do 1.33 or 1.3 will not care much about which multiplier it is set to... If it is 10*133 the CPU would be hotter than it would be at 13*100, and the real problem is heat... If you were to use a 66Mhz FSB and a multiplier of 15 then your CPU would run at 1Ghz without problems...

Sooooo, if you could get your motherboard to use the 13X multiplier, then it would work...

Actually, there will be BIOS updates that will make it work, at least with older MSI boards (not the classic 750 chipset though)...
