Its a basic system for my parents. I just want to get them something that will be upgradeable. Its probably going to be a 3000 with 1gb and a 120gb hd. PCI graphics card.
Is there any way to tell if the board isn't getting enough power? Im pretty sure my last VNF4 was bad but Im sort of paranoid that it may be my underpowered PSU.
I don't really know what the symptoms would be. I would guess that you would see instability, unexpected crashes and blue screens. But those could be due to lots of other factors as well.
If thats a high quality PS, it should be OK, but it really depends on what mobo your using and what other parts your using. The chipset itself takes very little power.
My antec truepower 330w (with 17a on the 12v rail) ran the system in my sig, but with a BFG 6800gt OC instead of the X800XL, and it was completely stable.
Well Seasonic is one of the top manufacturers of power supplies. They make the most efficient and silent PSU's on the market. The MB was a Chaintech VNF4 Ultra.
