Would 1000W be enough for...

Two HD4870X2s, DFI Lan Party X48, a Q6600, 2x2GB RAM, 2 640GB HDDs, and a PCI sound card?

Also, would it be future proof (I know no one is completely sure, but you may have an idea) for an extreme processor (Nehalem Bloomsfield) and DDR3 RAM?

There is no such thing as future proof when it comes to electronics.

1000w would probably be enough for what you listed, but no one knows for the next gen.

Nehalem has about a 15% increase in power use clock for clock, but then it also uses DDR3

Yeah I know that is an unfortunate reality, but PSUs seem to have a higher lifespan especially at that amount of wattage.

Wattage won't change the lifespan if the ATX spec changes and new connectors are required for PCI-e or EPS12V

Quality Amperage and Wattage go hand in hand in determining a PSU's lifespan
