WoT optioned

As much as I'd love to see this, given how long it took between books, can't imagine they'd be able to finish everything. Also, given how long each book is and how many side plots Jordan has, who knows how this will turn out.

considering the pace in latter books slowed to a crawl i don't think each book would need one movie. Crossroads of Twilight took place over ONE DAY!

You can't make a movie out of this. Even the "main plot" is far too long and complicated to be anything less than a 48hour feature.

I guess if we cut out all the braid-tugging, Perrin/Mat/Rand complaining how the other two are better with women, and the stupid politics stuff with Elayne, Maybe we'd cut it down to 5 books. 🙂

I wonder how close to the books it'll be. As in, will there be 45 minutes of screen time devoted to describing fucking sweaters?

Books 1-3, maybe 4 and 5 are good.

The rest of the books:

Males distrust females, females distrust males, Aiel are ultimate ninja pirate chuck norris bruce lee fighters. Rinse, repeat, sell.

Cliffs: Read last chapter of books 5+ and you haven't missed anything.

Who is Robert Jordan and what is WoT?

Robert Jordan is a recently deceased author. Wheel of Time is the series of books he wrote (but didn't finish because of the whole deceased thing).

Movie 1 Rand and company leave Emond Fields and begin to discover their destiny. Books 1-3
Movie 2 Rand comes to terms with being the Dragon Reborn and begins planning for the final confrontation Books 4-8
Movie 3 The final battle Books 9-12

There sure has been a sudden rush with turning fantasy series into pictures lately. Sword of Truth, Song of Ice and Fire, and now Wheel of Time? I'll give them all a shot.

I still say GRRM is going to pull a Jordan and croak before he finishes his ASOIAF. He'd have to live longer than that Indian guy to finish at this rate.

Well GRRM and RJ were born within 4 weeks of each other...

I think I started joking about RJ dying before completing the series around 2001, and by 2004 I was pretty damned sure of it.

This is absolutely destined to be a disaster, unless they're planning on making 12 movies.

I think The Eye of the World would make a fantastic movie on it's own.

Not really. You can cut 5 or 6 books out of things as the "main plot" doesn't advance at all.

You can only show Nynaeve on the screen wanting to box somebody's ears for only so long, you know.

Did they ever finish this series off? I think I read the first 8 or 9 and then gave up.

Nope, Robert Jordan croaked after writing the 11th of 12 books.

i'm still trying to figure out how he was going to tie up everything that needed tying up in just one book. or maybe he was going to sopranos us.

This was his plan all along. It's an elaborate shaggy dog story joke on the readers. "I've got it! I'll write 11 books, promise a 12th, and then die, leaving everyone wondering what happens!"

I'm just glad I don't know how to read.

Update:

http://kotaku.com/5084228/big-...-jordans-wheel-of-time
http://venturebeat.com/2008/11...s-wheel-of-time-books/

Red Eagle Games (Manetheren?) formed to make games from the movies, of which 3 are currently planned. An MMO is also planned.

Still waiting on book 12, I have low expectations.

The series is known for its detailed imaginary world, large cast of characters and an edgy ?Lord of the Rings? meets ?Road Warrior? blend of fantasy and sci-fi.

Methinks someone didn't actually read these books, hm?
