Worthy Upgrade?

I'm wondering if going from an eVGA 6600GT to a BFG 6800GT AGP is a worthy upgrade? I have been searching around, and have seen 6800GT's bench similarily to my 6600GT (I think I have a freak 6600GT, breaks 10k in 3DMark03.... 6800GT gets around 12k?). I'm not really into benchmarks, but it's the easiest way to compare different video cards. Thanks.

Definately not worth the upgrade. I would wait for a large upgrade in your case, seeing as how you're still using AGP. Otherwise you'll just find yourself upgrading again in a couple months :\

It's a BIG step up from ANY 6600GT ;)

there's NO concievable way your 6600GT would touch a 6800GT mate.

It all depends how long you plan to wait before moving to PCI-E i suppose. If not for a while, it would possibly be worth it, if in the reasonable future yes, then no :)

It's worth it if you are getting a very good deal on one and (EG:you get decent money for your 6600GT). Also decent if you play games past 1152x864 - if not the 6600GT is still fairly good. For new games like BF2, CoD2, and FEAR a 6800GT would get you much higher quality settings and much better resolutions with good frame rates.

Agree with will889: it's not a huge upgrade, so should only be considered if the cost to you isn't much. The fast 6600GT core means it scores well at low res (e.g. the stardard 3dMark bench), but at higher resolutions (1280x1024 and above) it's limited by its 128-bit memory; there should be noticable gain from the 256MB of 256-bit memory on the 6800GT at high res/detail settings.

AGP isn't worth it at all IMHO. The cards at the top end (7800GS) cost the same cards that perform much better (i.e. 7900GT), and cards at the mid range level just don't perform as well as their PCI-e counterparts. You'd be better served upgrading to PCI-e and getting a 7600GT or better. Even the 7600GT crushes the 6800GT in gaming performance.

Yah, but I figure that this will be my last upgrade for a while (possibly more ram). I'm not much of a gamer anymore, but to answer many people's question, I'm getting the 6800GT for my 6600GT and 30$. Worth it?

I'd go with a 7600GT. I just got one to replace my 6800GT and it's a great card for the price. Oblivion runs great in 1280*960 with HDR and everything from half-full to full details (half-full = between meduim and high).

I'm very pleased with this card and I OC'ed it from stock 560/1400 to 594/1500. I don't know why but mine above 600 it's crushing 3Dmark05.

I thought that 7600gt and the 6800gt were on par almost? Does the 7600 really accel that much over the 6800gt?

I can't find the review between 7600GT and 6800GT right now, but the 7600GT is quite a bit faster in most games

I agree, for that good of a deal, it's worth it. It may not be a huge generational jump for you, but for only $30 more, that's a very good deal. I just sold both a 6600gt and a 6800gt (both pci-e though) and the difference between them was $85.

The 7600GT performs right between the 6800GS and the 7800GT which meens it's faster than the 6800GT. Some people will tell you that the 6800GT is better because of the 16pl/6vp and the 256bit memory bandwidth compared to the 7600GT 12pl/5vp and the 128bit memory even tho the 7600GT has higher clocks.

Well I had a 6800GT and replaced it with a 7600GT and I can tell you that in Oblivion, Half-Life 2: Lost Coast, Warhammer 40,000 DOW/WA I get better framerate at a better resolution.

It's worth it I tell you. :)

Thanks for the replies :). I think that I'm going to stick with the 6800gt cause I'm only paying an additional 30$ with my 6600gt, unless one of you guys want to trade me your 7600 :).

I have a 7800GT right now.

But before that I had a X800 Pro.

And before that I had a 6600GT. I thought it was a worthy upgrade.
