Worthy upgrade from GTX 1080?

I am really disappointed with my FPS in Metro Exodus @ 1440P


At "Ultra" preset this thing struggles to maintain 44fps or so. Obviously, it's not RTX 2080Ti, but 44fps?! Really? Dropping to "High" doesn't really improve things all that much. I'm seeing low 50's.

Do I have any upgrade options which wont cost $800+ or should I just OC and hope for the best?

GameGPU's benchmarks must be right on then. For 1440p Ultra, the 1080 Ti/2080/VII get around 60 while the 2080 Ti gets 82. Their 1080 got 46.

They are using a 9900K @ 5.2.

At the moment, looks like your options are limited to Top tier cards if you want top tier settings and fps in Metro.
2080, 2080ti
1080ti should get you a nice bump as well but its comically priced.

2080TI is the only card I'd consider coming from a 1080. Either pony up the cash or wait until 3000 series GPUs.

If it were me I'd just use graphics settings that let me pull 60fps.

I don't require 60fps, but at 44fps average, I get these.. 0-1fps dips where the game completely freezes for a second here and there. It's really annoying. Thankfully it's not very often.


Be it as it may, considering how ridiculously taxing this game is, I don't see why we shouldn't be asking "But can it Run Metro?", instead of "Can it run Crysis"like we always did before.

Hitches like that sounds like something unrelated to the GTX1080.

Sorry, but basically all 10 series owners have nothing to upgrade to. Spending the cost of an entire PC on a 2080ti is the worst kind of joke reserved for only those who don't mind being the punchline themselves. Nvidia dropped the worst value generation on us that we've seen, probably ever. RTX 2080 cost $100 more than the 1080Ti cost 2 years ago and performs the same. Pathetic.

Drop to medium and enjoy 60fps without upgrading your card.

Personally, I do color sensitive work on my PC, so I need a very accurate monitor. To get an accurate monitor that is also VRR is very expensive. I'd also have to replace my existing expensive monitor, which just isn't cost effective for me since the only benefit would be in games. Obviously that won't apply to everyone, or likely even many people, but there are good reasons to want to be able to push 60fps.

Disable physx, disable hairworks and you should see a big boost in fps. Though as the guy above said the bench tool is the worst case scenario for this game and it actually runs much better overall. Additionally you could disable advanced tessellation for even more fps boost.

These won't affect graphical fidelity at all. Well advanced tessellation a bit, but not a lot.

I set everything to "ultra" now, and it never showed any sign of a slowdown (GTX 1080), from beginning to end. It pays to browse threads now and then.

The thought entered my mind that it might be a ploy to make 32gb of RAM the new requirement for fluid gameplay. No doubt it has prompted some to upgrade to the new $700+ cards.

At this rate, next viable upgrade for a like price will be the RTX 3080, whenever that drops...
