should i bother upgrading to the x1950 pro or just save up for a new computer? i'd like to do some gaming and i'm scared to get the new stuff

I'm in a similar situation with my game machine. I had a 3500+, 6800GT and 1GB of RAM. I ended up selling the parts (except for the case and HD's) and now I'm pricing out a new system.

It really depends on how much gaming you want to do and at what resolution/detail level. I want my next PC to play everything at 1280 or higher with all detail turned on so upgrading wasn't really an option.

Hey thanks for your response? WHat is the most convenient to sell out the parts and everything? AT FS/FT? How much did you get for everything? I assume for a decent rig I would need to spend around 1000-1200 minus whatever I get for my old parts. Thing is I think I might need to upgrade my antec truepower 430 too 🙁 if I want to ugprade to say 8800 gts 320 mb.

Yep, my PSU is getting upgraded as well.

I usually try to sell my stuff locally first (friends or co-workers). The forums are a great place to sell items as well. I generally use the FS forum to determine fair prices for the items I'm selling. It's a good place to start at least.

This was exactly the system i was sitting on until my motherboard fried and i went with a cheap intermediate upgrade program to the 4600+ and 2 gigs of ram I have right now.

Which; compared to my 3500+ is quite noticeable.

I still find that my 6800GT runs anything i've thrown at it with playable framerates. (Except for SupCom at 2560x1024) But i also feel that it's about time for a new computer. I'm going to attempt to wait for some really taxing games like Crysis and UE3 based games to come out before i see just how much of an upgrade is absolutely required.

I went from a 1gb ram, 3000+ venice @2.6ghz and a 7600gs, to a x2 3800+ @ 2.6ghz, and a 8800gts with 2gb of ram. I also had to replace my PSU. All in all it costed me roughly 500 euro's. 270 euro's of that is because of the 8800gts of course.

Going Intel would have costed me another 250 euro's for a motherboard and the cpu. I'm pretty happy with what I've got now, and it should last me for at least another year with ease. When building from scratch I would have gone Intel though, simply because no AMD can touch a overclocked c2d @ 3ghz.
