Worth upgrading to Leopard from Tiger? (when its released)

Just looking around on apple's site at the new features, and while some parts they are showing look useful to me (download/file folder in dock, & time machine), the rest kinda seem, i dunno, nothing special...

Is there anything that would make the upgrade worthwhile? I guess what I am asking, why would you upgrade?

I would upgrade for the better unified UI, the improved Mail app, Spaces, Time Machine, pop-out folders on the Dock, better connectivity to shares, resolution independent UI, ridiculously large icons so I can preview photos with Cover Flow, its ability to learn the hardware (when I was running the beta, my battery life increase after a few restarts) and other things as well.

I would not upgrade for the new Front Row which is a step back in convenience IMO, the current state of compatibility, the new taskbar (transparent?) or the current state of Safari 3.

I think when the time comes, it will be quite a good product and enhance convenience for the user. Also, even with the beta, i did notice that the usual quality of it being snappier than the previous version held true, which really is quite weird to think about.

The main reason I'll be upgrading is simple - Work Spaces. I love them on Linux, and I can't wait to use my Mac with different work spaces. If only Windows had native multi-desktop support!

I will.. partly because I can get it for $10. But boot camp in full might prove useful. Altho, since bioshock doesn't run well enough for me, it may be a moot point.

I'm more curious on how the new dock works, as well as time machine. My current setup for backups is a bit obsessive, but time machine will make it easier to roll back. I'm just not sure I can afford to keep buying external hdd's... and it looks like a mess. The resolution independent UI is also another thing.

Part of me wants to wait for 10.5.1 though, just so I'm not an early adopter again

i tried the WWDC version (9A466) and didn't think it was all that great, jaguar to tiger was a bigger jump IMO

apple confuses me with some of its decisions (aka the lack of a fucking right mouse button until what, a year ago? )

I think Apple's Bluetooth audio implementation blows chunks as it is. Stuff that sounds terrible on my Mac or iPhone sounds fine on my Windows PC or non-iPhone cell phone.

Steve Jobs is simply too controlling. That is what initially brought Apple to grinding halt in the past; they wouldn't let anyone write apps for the system other than themselves. I mean, I love what he does, but cut us some slack!

I can understand the right clicking argument for desktops (though, that is now a bloody pile of mush you are beating, not a horse any more) but it only take a person a few minutes with a MacBook/Pro with 2 finger clicking and tapping turned on for them to completely forget about the whole 'no right click' argument. My friend hates on Macs, more out of ignorance than anything else, and was forced to use my machine a few weeks ago since no one else had a laptop where we were. After hearing him complain for about 5 minutes concerning the lack of a secondary click button on the trackpad (I forget about it to the point that i get thrown when i am on a Windows laptop) i finally explained to him about the 2 finger clicking, and 2 finger scrolling, and he shut right up... still complained about me having iWork instead of Office, but whatever

Well if you have ever used Front Row on Tiger than you are familiar with how it does things. If I am listening to music in iTunes, and then open up Front Row, I can keep playing the same song through Front Row, right where I left off (actually, it never stops playing) by hitting 'Now Playing'. Leopard Front Row doesn't have that option. It stops the music in iTunes, and then you have to choose that song all over again (annoying when you have 4000+ songs) and then it starts playing. And the 'Now Playing' option in Front Row is the song that was/is playing in Front Row. The navigation through all the other things is a little weird too, but that is something that I can adapt to.

Another thing that I do like about Leopard is the new Parental Controls options (great for when my nieces are visiting and want to use my laptop) and the increased security on the /, /Library, and /Users/UserName/Library... you now have to input your password for any changes you make.

I do not like the "Are you sure you want to delete this" dialog box for the TrashCan, and I cannot find a way to turn it off.

However, there are lots of little things that I do like. When you go to rename a file, and the extension is visible, only the name of the file, not the extension is highlighted. So if the file is called 'Super Awesome Video.mov' when you go to rename it, only 'Super Awesome Video' is highlighted so you can quickly type in the new name.

Quick Look is a god-send for pdfs, images and really everything else it works with. CoverFlow is nifty for browsing through images, and with the new 512*512 icon size, it will look all the more wicked.

I honestly have no idea
