My motherboard can support up to a 900 MHZ celeron with a bit of tweaking and a new slocket. Think it is worth it to go from a 466 to a 900 for so little? My only other upgrading option is to scrap the machine and build from scratch which would cost a whole lot more...

Should be a nice upgrade from the C466. BTW, if your board supports a C900, it also supports a C1000, C1100. If your mobo supports overclocking, set the FSB for 112 to boost it up a bit.

For the price of a good night out you can double your processing power? DO IT!

Yes definately.

Upgrades are NOT cheap. Normally to get that level of performance upgrade, you'd have to upgrade the motherboard aswell (which miglt also entail a RAM upgrade too).

For $70, thats awesome. Go for it!

actually seems a little high ($) to upgrade....you can pick up a chip for around 30 and a slocket for like 15....look around at the for sale forums....

even if you had to stick with the $70, the upgrade would still be worth it... :)

How long is this upgrade gonna last you? I've also got a Celeron 466 but I'm
waiting until about Feb 02. Then I'm spending a little more and getting a new
MB with Celeron 1.2 Tualatin and hope it lasts me a year or more............greg
