Worth upgrading GTX275?

I am currently running the following rig:


AMD Phenom II X4 940 BE oc to 3.4ghz
4 gig of ddr2 800
Biostar POS motherboard that won't take Phenom X6 (grrrrr)
EVGA GTX275
Consair TX650 psu
2 x 22 inch 1680 x 1050 lcd

I am currently running starcraft 2 with ok result mainly due to my cpu and planning to get Final Fantasy XIV the next month. I am wondering should I upgrade either my card or mb + processor since I believe this rig will have some minor problem running it. In addition, much to my scheming and dealing I will have around $100 dollar in my amazon or 99 in my paypal as extra. I am thinking of either upgrading my GTX275 to a 460 or upgrade my rig to am3 Phenom II x6 rig, which option would give me more bang for the buck? Or should I play a waiting game for my 275 to die so I can rma in hope of evga send me a better card( cross my finger).

Exactly how much better is the 460 compare to my 275? I heard that 460 is suippose to be around 40% better a normal GTX260 but what about 275?

I doubt you will see any drastic changes with a x6 CPU.

275 -> 460 is a sidegrade. You won't be any faster significantly.

When it comes to gaming, this is also practically a sidegrade from what you have already, especially for SC2.

I have a comparable system to you and haven't had a problem running any games at 1920 x 1080. Neither upgrade path you suggested will provide significant improvements. Wait for now.
 
Current upgrades aren't good enough for the money.

Maybe Southern Islands or the next Nvidia gen will be good enough.
 
It kind of piss me off thatr my 275 is capable of running SC II at 60fps while my processor, while good, is uncapable of it.
 
With your video card, and if you were truly looking for an increase in performance in SC2, I would suggest selling your AMD platform and switching to Intel. The CPU is a much higher bottleneck in SC2, and the Core i5/i7 parts really helps in SC2.

But if I were you, I would probably wait.
 
SC2 only uses 2 cores at most and the minimum system requirements are far below your system.

In fact your system is right at the recommended system specs.

I'm running it with a 3 year old C2D E6600 and 2 GB DDR2800 with dual 9800GT's in SLI and I experience no problems in game whatsoever.

Only trouble I've encountered is the cutscenes which sometimes have tearing / artifacting probably due to SLI issues.

If your really not happy then I would try getting a higher end AM3 mobo with DDR3 RAM support. You can reuse your CPU and video card in that case so it won't hurt your pocket as much. You could also upgrade this CPU in the future to X6 or switch to Intel Core series while keeping your RAM.
 
Your only reasonable upgrade would be the GTX 480 and will never double up in performance, or the HD 5970 which can almost double up in performance compared to your card. But I think that just wait for the next generation of cards, your card has plenty of power for any game today.

agreed, you would need a gtx 480 or possibly 5870 to even consider upgrading, and you even with them you'd be spending a lot of $$ for a little performance improvement.
