Or should I save my money. Not sure if I will see that much of a difference in windows vista 64 or not.

I wouldn't bother. It's not worth it to game at 1680x1050, if you could sell your GTS for maybe $120 and buy a HD4850 for an additional $30 that might be worth it if you want to turn on AA. But to get a HD4870 I don't think its worth it.

If you plan to sell the 8800, anyone who tells you no .... well anyways, sell it for a 100 to put towards the price tag of the 4870, any questions?

I suppose you could gain some frames but do you need them? Can't your current GPU run games maxed out at that resolution?

this is the right plan. keep checking hot deals, right now they have one (powercolor maybe?) that is $140AR shipped. sell your gts for ~ $120 and you can easily justify the upgrade at that point.

the only problem is the selling part, im still trying to get rid of my modded hd3870. but in regards to op, just wait for another gen of cards. your gts is not bad of a card but if you really must, then 4850 ftw

You would notice a difference for sure. Not to mention at 1680x1050 you could probably play at 8xAA on everything. It depends how much that appeals to you :).
