Worth upgrading from 3200XP to 64bit 3200?

I'm currently running an AMD 3200XP which is as far as the XP range will take me, given I'm on a limited budget, would upgrading my MB and buying an AMD 64bit 3200 Newcastle give significant gain over my current set up - or should I wait a bit?

AMD 3200XP
Crucial 1Gig
9800 Pro
nForce 2 MB

I would wait, unless you have a great need for more computing power. I just did the upgrade from a 2500+ XP overclocked to 2.3 ghz to a AMD64 Winchester 3200+ overclocked to 2.5 ghz and meh...

Yeah, I think you're probably right.

And to go over 3200+ / 3400+ seems to mean a huge increase in price, which I just can't justify at the moment. Probably save the money for a full upgrade later in the new year.

Thanks for your help!

they say there is avg of 20%-30% difference at same mhz between xp and A64, ur xp is 2.2ghz ish??... so upgrading to a 1.8ghz A64 will not be much faster

Really? Yeah, the XP is 2.2ghz.

So for a worthwhile upgrade, I'm looking at the A64 3400+ or above? (I'm guessing that runs at about 2.2?)

..if u think 20-30% is a big difference, go for it, but I think your XP can go up to 2.4-2.6ghz with some tweaking too

you would get a bigger boost if u get the S939 A64s, 3000+ or 3200+, they can overclock from 1.8-2.0ghz to 2.4ghz on almost any decent mobo. some ppl manage up to 2.6-2.7ghz on good OC mobo, but those r extreme lucky cases i'd say.
