I just upgraded the other bits in my computer so now it's:
i7 2600K
MSI P67 Sandy Britches motherboard
8gb... appropriately fast memory?
OCZ 60gb SSD (which is garbage...)
Hewlett Packard 2tb hard drive
PNY GTX 295 xlr8
KitchenAid 28" 1920x1200 monitor

My Borderlands performance smoothed out a lot coming from the e4400. Once I get tired of borderlands (on my 2nd playthrough with my second character...) Next I'd like to play Oblivion, and then either the fallout series or the grand theft auto series. I don't want either of them tainted by the performance issues that plagued me during Borderlands.

I like the looks of EVGA's Superclocked GTX 580, but I'm wondering if it'll make much (~$600) difference. Or if I should just wait.

Also when are bigger 3d monitors coming? I want a 3d monitor but I can't go back to 23" for it.

Theres no single card that will give you a worthwhile boost from you 295. twin 570s or 6950s for about $600 would be a nice upgrade, about twice as fast.

I think there was a 27inch 3d monitor somewhere on the forum.

Yeah I found it on google. Acer HN274H. It looks like exactly what I want, and for about $700. Now I just have to wait for it to come out!

All those you want to play should run fine with a 295. Like everyone said before, there's not one single card yet that'll give you a good enough boost to warrant the cost.

Keep an eye out for the HD 6990 when it's finally released. It will also be a duel GPU card that will be stronger than your GTX 295 as well as having features DX11. Odds are it will probably use less power as well.

I don't swing that way.

I think the 295 will be plenty for you at 1900x1200 - I was able to run all of those games with a 295 at 2560x1600 with "good" quality settings.

I'm able to max everything out with a GTX 570 SLI rig now and it's probably about 4x the performance rather than 2x. But it's definitely louder and hotter, and would probably be a waste for you unless you were going to upgrade your monitor.

gtx590 from Asus ( dual gtx 460's) would be a good upgrade or a gtx 595 (dual gtx 580), within the next month ,should be a great upgrade. About 2x the fps as a gtx295.

Dual gtx 580's.... How much is that thing going to cost? And what kind of power supply would you need? I only have a 750w.

Cost? mabe a little more then you gtx295 did.
300 watts. About 50 more then your current card.
I would think a good 750 watt psu will be fine.

WHy not just go with 2 gtx560's for 500$? Sell the gtx295 for 200$+. That would be a nice upgrade.

Yup. A 2.0ghz e4400.
how long did you do that and why? a gtx295 with an e4400 is silly because you would have never gotten even 50% of what it could do. heck in cpu intensive games you would have been to lucky to get 25-30%.

You don't need dual anything at 1920 x 1200. Dual 570s is a waste of money. Speaking from experience, a 580 is more than enough at that res.
