Worth to buy 9800 Non Pro version?

ugh

Platinum Member
Hi folks,

A friend of mine is selling a new OEM Radeon 9800 Non Pro for USD$150. Is this card still a good buy considering the price of the 6600 as well as performance and features?

Thanks!

Not to mention.... you can get a used 9800 Pro for $150. Even if the NP is new, it's not a good deal knowing that.

Unfortunately nobody's selling it for such a low price here 🙂 That's the best deal I can find right now coz the 6600's aren't here yet.

That's not a bad price. You *can* find used 9700Pros (which are about the same speed, and generally don't overclock as well) for ~$130 "here" (by "here" I mean on EBay in the US; I have no idea what your definition of "here" is). But $150 for a *new* 9700Pro/9800 is a pretty good deal (IMO). The 6600GT at $200 would be tempting, but they're currently ~$230...

Should have made myself clearer. By "here", I mean Malaysia 🙂 USD$150 is for the 9800 while the 9700Pro is going for USD$130. I think I'll stick to my Ti4200 64MB FTTB. Will see how the 6600 pushes the price of other cards 😀

Sideswipe001: Dang, those things are expensive. I thought they'll be at the USD$200 price range even for the GT, AGP version. Thanks for the info folks.

i think 9800 is worth buying, consider the fact that PRO is not available at $150 everywhere

but unless the upgrade bug has infected you, you should wait out for a bit

I'm expecting my X800 Pro today, I'll have a 9800 pro to sell, but $150 is a bit too low. PM if interested.

iversonyin: Would you be so kind to tell me more about the upgrade bug? Could that be flashing the Non Pro to Pro?

Todd33: Not unless you want to ship the card half way round the world (I presume you're in the US) 😛

ugh, i would go for it. Since it is very difficult to get video cards for a decent price (I am in canada and it isn't possible to find a 9800NP for that price!) in countries other than the US. This will give you more proformance than the 9700pro (even if it does overclock like mad). And when a 9800np/pro is useless, a 6600GT will be useless as well.

In my opinion, don't spend an extra 50 bucks so you get 10 more fps on a game or something. That and who knows how long you will have to wait.

Cawchy87: Thanks for the info. Am digging more on the 9800 vs 6600 reviews out there. Hopefully the deal still stays 🙂 Besides that, I think my aging AXP2000 will be the bottle neck 🙁
