Think it's worth it to go from Opteron 146 stock to this one:
Athlon X2 3800 939

I do a lot of video/gaming, etc so is this worth it while at a good price of $95 for X2?

Thanks

Do you plan to overclock? I assume your Opteron is stock based on your sig.

IF you plan to leave it stock it's a decent upgrade, you loose half the L2 cache, but you gain another processor. I would wait until AMD does their price-cuts though.

22nd of april if your wondering when those fabulous price cuts are gonna happen. You're actually a lucky sob, newegg sells 939 x2's for 95 bucks, in Holland * europe * i gotta pay 150 euro's !!! Thats easily 190 bucks !!! Hah, I could buy an opty 165 for less then a darn s939 x2 -_-

Anywayz, yes it is worth the upgrade, I'm pretty sure your pc will be gaming capable for at least another year, and you'll notice a big difference in doing other stuff on your pc as well, multitasking and such :p. You're pretty much on the same pc as I am, I'm on a 3000+ venice running at 2400 mhz, 7600gs, 1gb value ram, and I'm trying to get some american dude to buy me an x2, and ship it to Holland for me.

Heres another interesting thing, your opteron should be pretty sweet to OC, IF your gonna buy that x2, why not mess around a little with your current cpu, you should be able to get it to run at 2.6-2.8ghz, and if you feel comfortable oc-ing, you can OC your new x2 to around 2400mhz without a sweat.

I would do the upgrade before all the 939's are gone for good. You will love the dual core and if I were you, I would OC that baby.
