Worth the drive to return something if the gas is more than the refund? :)

In my wife's murano (avg mpg around 20-21) with the current local gas prices of ~$3.80, we spend roughly $0.19/mi on gas.

I need to return a $16 item I purchased at the Apple store while up there on business a few weeks ago. Problem is, the Apple Store is 46 miles away.

So in order to get my $16 back, I have to spend $17.48 in gas. Depressing :( Think I'm keeping it.

Its a screen protector that wasn't manufactured correctly, not really a re-sellable item.

That being said, I shot off an e-mail to the manufacturer to see if they might be able to help out.

They'll swap it out if you pay shipping, which comes out to $17.50! :(

I had the same issue yesterday. Wife bought some baked goods (muffins) but when we got home found out they weren't fully cooked. 13 miles round trip and 16-20mpg depending on which vehicle to return a $3.50 item. Not going to bother unless headed that way again soon. Next time we stop in I'll see if they'll make good, not a big deal but annoying.

You know full well that if I moved up there, I'd find some reason to complain about driving down here in a few months. :)

You, or anyone you know, won't be going anywhere near that store in the next couple weeks? Have someone return it for you if needed.
