Worth it

I currently have a 9800GT which plays the one and only game I have perfect, BF2. I'm thinking about picking up Crysis Warhead and a few other newer titles. I like to have max AA/AF and I'm pretty sure that the 9800GT will not be able to handle those games with max AA/AF at 1680x1050. Would it be worth it to get a 4870 1gb to ensure that I would be able to get the maximum eye candy for newer games?

Thanks

I don't think it's worthwhile to spend another $250 to get some minor smoothing in a game you'll have beaten in 3 hours + some unknown future products with undefined requirements.
Unless your Crysis experience is that important to you, stick with your 9800GT and save your money for later when there are actually games demanding more power, and the same cash will get you more.

Well I upgraded from a 9800GTX and in my opinion it's a nice update. It's nice in Crysis (about same FPS with 4x AA on the 4870 1GB compared to 0X AA with the 9800GTX) and awesome in Race Driver Grid/Supreme Commander.

Actually it would be from the sale of my 9800GT, with that the price would be offset to about $180 🙂

I upgraded from an 8800 GT, which is practically a 9800 GT, to my current 4870, but the 512 mb version, and I can say it worth the trouble. Upgrading to a 4870 1 gb is even better. I've just finished Warhead and worked "fine" on Enthusiast, although there were some times with severe stuttering in some places, where the game was pretty much unplayable.

It's a good time to upgrade now, since the G92 chip still has some resale value in it.
